"Well, yes, take heart -- Cheney told Rush that we'll all be very happy with this pick in ten years."
I've seen her face.
She ain't 60 unless she has had a REAL rough life or worked as a cowboy or sharecropper.
In 10 years we WILL be happy with this pick - maybe.
She'll be in her 70's and ready to retire.

Time will tell and she should be approved VERY quickly - no real opposition. Unless Kennedy shows up and he's sober enough to vote but not soused enough to fall down on the Senate stairs.
So she'll be rendering verdicts this term along with Roberts.

Read My Lips: No More Strict Constructionist Judges !
Slip-Sliding into judicial Gomorrah.
Except for the liberation of millions of people in Afghanistan and Iraq , it has been a downward spiral of disillusionment for me as per my faith in the Republican Party going back to the deportation of Elian Gonzalez ( and yes the pubbies were mostly complicit in that despicable act in the guise of fathers' rights - again spineless to the core). We can save millions but not one little boy.
Power does corrupt absolutely.
I am ready for a Conservative Party.
The nation is now split in half - red and blue.
We can make it red, white, and blue. Dividing the electorate into thirds (liberals, squishy moderates, and conservatives) which conservatives can win.
The opportunity is there in 2008 particularly if the choices are Hillary and McCain or Rudy. What is Goldwater Jr. doing these days? Don't know much about him but the name has a nice ring to it.
It could create a Constitutional Crisis (decided by the House of Representatives) but conservatives would finally be heard because their force would at last be counted in the numbers of a Conservative Party electorate.

Cheney told Rush that we'll all be very happy with this pick in ten years. Just have to be patient, I guess -
I wish he'd have said we'd be happy within ONE YEAR! No one can predict with certainty the kind of justice Miers will be, but she is our President's choice. I know him to be a man of faith and he has known Harriet Miers for many years and knows her well. He knows her much better than any of the other potential nominees and for that, we should probably be grateful. In the end, every pick comes down to trust and with so much at stake, I'd like to think Bush is confident in her philosophy, ability and loyalty.
And yes, THE most important Presidential election of our time will be here before we know it and we MUST do everything possible to make sure the hildabeast or any democRAT gets defeated.

The sad thing is, this makes the double standard a presidence. By double standard, I mean: The head counsel of the ACLU can get confirmed with no real opposition, but a conservative cannot be confirmed unless they are to a great degree an unknown quantity. Basically, ACLU head Ruth Bade Ginsberg, is a perfectly fine choice for SCOTUS, but Janice Rogers Brown is unnaceptable. Which do you think is "outside the mainstream" for most Americans? Clinton can nominate whoever he sees fit, even with Democrats in the minority, while Bush can't nominate qualified conservatives with a sizable Republican majority.
Also: When a conservative justice leaves the court, it is okay to replace them with someone to the left of them, but if a liberal leaves the court, it is the presidents responsibility to nominate someone like them.

The thing is, I hope and pray that I am 100% wrong on this and she will turn out to be like Scalia or Thomas. I would have no problem eating crow.

Simply put you have no clue as to her qualifications What a bizarre statement. YOU have no clue what I know about her qualifications. But I can tell you something unequivocally, she is not the BEST person for this position. This is too important.

Your argument is that she is not qualified. As petitfour pointed out, the constitution does not list a single qualification to be on the Supreme Court. You don't even need to be a lawyer. Okay, I am willing to change my statement.
She is the LEAST qualified person among the top 15 candidates considered for this nomination.

Vote for Democrats and you will be a happy conservative.
To: browardchad
Just have to be patient, I guess -- after all, conservatives have waited all these decades, worked our arses off, and urged to hold our noses and vote for Rhinos so we could win the all-important prize: Supreme Court nominations.Wait -- wasn't that what they said about winning the house, senate, and presidency?

I am pretty sure I voted for a Democrat the last two presidential elections.
Both times for W, which today stood for wimp.

Ted Nugent is a religious bigot. He castigates the Catholic Church while revealing himself to be a nincompoop when it comes to his knowledge of the Church, its theology, and its history. He should 'shut up and sing' like every other performer.

Do you think for a MOMENT Schummer would be talking about Roberts this way?? One liberal usually recognizes another. I fear I would have to believe Schummer on this call. Hoping I am wrong this time........

Hey Bush - why don't you raise taxes now - you'll be a certified Democrat then.
This is the issue; if Bush really acted like a Conservative Republican in going about the business of being President we would all trust his pick as a conservative pick. But he is not a conservative, so why should we trust that his pick to the SCOTUS will be conservative. He has destroyed our trust with CFR, spending, no vetos, open borders, tariffs, tough on terrorists execpt the ones that don't like Israel, and the education debacle. Sure he is good on National security, except the borders, and we will throw out the tax cut bone, but domestically he has done nothing to convince me he is a conservative at heart.
To: texasmountainman
After my initial anger this morning about this, I tried to at least build up some hope about this pick. We'll see?...
