She was co-chair of the Texas State Lottery Commissison! (sracasm button off)
Simply put, she is NOT QUALIFIED.
As I said on another topic...
I am going to be sick. Schumer is on right now, talking about how Bush's nomination of Miers is a rejection by Bush of the "extreme" members of his party. He is expressing "hope" that Miers is a "mainstream" nominee.
He just called it a "good first day" for the process. I feel like I am going to throw up.
Could be 3. He admires her.
Eyouch!
Thank you sir! May I have another?! </sycophant>
Hey Bush - why don't you raise taxes now - you'll be a certified Democrat then.
1. Letting Miers be Assoc. Justice but will ask some harsh yet token 'difficult questions' during the hearing, or
2. Oppose her nomination.
#1, we'll get another SDO. #2, the MSM and Democrats will argue, "Look! Those conservatives cannot stand even moderate conservative. They're clearly out ot the mainstream!"
I hate to think that Bush puts this situation upon us!
Of course he could have made a better pick in terms of solid conservative record and qualifications, but I don't think you can say that he has not chosen a solid conservative pick. It is too early to tell and we just don't know, just like we don't really know how Roberts will turn out. So I think that Mark Levin is being too sweeping in his condemnation. Plus, a blank slate will presumably be easier to get confirmed without a fillibuster on the Roberts model.
3. She is a Christian.
Or maybe thats a 1.
Two words. Michael Brown.
I almost expect to find she was counsel to the Arabian Horse Association.
Levin's take is the same as mine. Lawyers expect a Supreme Court appointee to be a heavyweight.
And Levin said what of Roberts?
But she stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. /s
After 15 minutes reading comments here, Ive heard nothing substantive to indicate that shes a bad pick. Just a lot of speculation and hysteria built on hysteria. Not much thought on these threads this morning.
Wish we had a conservative majority in the Senate to vote her down.
Just a few thoughts:
1. I have no idea who Harriet Miers is.
2. Bush promised us judges in the mold of Scalia and Thomas.
3. Clarence Thomas was well worth the pain of getting him confirmed.
4. Edith Jones is also from Texas.
WTF?
Right on the money...why not Luttig or Rogers-Brown or Owen or McConnell or Doug Ginsburg? Many conservatives, disgusted with the President's first term, voted because they hoped that he would redeem himself with his nominees to the Court. Justice Roberts was an excellent choice. This was another disappointment
It seems to be the equivalent of a baseball manager in game 7 of the World Series having the option of picking Willie Mays or Mickie Mantle to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth and instead picks Buddy Biancalana.
Conservatives react: "Aack! What's this stuff in my mouth?!?"
