This sums up what many conservatives are feeling, and you need to come to grips with this fact. I have been an ardent supporter of President Bush, but this ridiculous second pick is too much for even me to handle. Conservatism and the Republican Party are both bigger than Bush. We have to continue on while he plans his library.
"The collective complaint - We elected fifty-five Senators and broke the threat of a Democratic filibuster so Bush could appoint a stealth moderate? It looks weak (Dems smell blood), it gives nothing to the base, and it is implausible that Bush can be hoping to form a new centrist coalition built around Lieberman and Leahy. Bush seems to be conceding the argument that a true, visible conservative cannot be confirmed, despite his control of the Senate. And it looks like cronyism, mainly because it is."

University of Wisconsin at Madison undergrad here. I got a quite sought after fellowship for study abroad on graduation and some jerk from NY (where else) said "You just don't expect to find brains out here."

With all the hysteria going on, a lot of these irate FReepers will be too tired to watch the conformation process on CSPAN.

Hello to Mike Pence, who ran a fine radio show here before he ran for Congress! I was a caller to his show a couple of times, and not only is he conservative, he is a really nice man!

I heard Anne on the radio yesterday and though there was no talk of impeachment in her remarks, she did say that this pick was done as an in your face to conservatives. When the President floated Gonzalez a couple of weeks ago, she said he received all kinds of negative comments from conservatives in the beltway that it would not be good to have a crony like that be nominated.
So as an in your face move, he nominates a "real" crony that has no judicial experience, is his personal laywer and the WH is touting her experience as a councilman.
Who knows......

Ann Coulter wanting to impeach the Prez. over this. It's getting nuts!
LOL! You're right. President Bush has been under constant attack for over 2 years but still gets up every morning (early) and does his best to heard the cats in the GOP and Congress and kick jihadi butt worldwide and then shoulder the blame for hurricanes. I give him an A for stamina and staying on message. I've laid in plenty of popcorn for the tough fights ahead ;o)

"But President Bush has put himself in the awkward position of asking his base to trust him at precisely the moment the base was expecting Bush to demonstrate their trust was well-founded in the first place."
This should be repeated over and over again. We will get mauled in 2006!
