That is because they kill "environmentalists" down there. And this is bad because?

Here's a fun thread for you. More angry consumers who think we are getting screwed by oil companies. I have to disagree with them, though. I think we are getting screwed by oil companies, OPEC, and the US Government.

As long as the government has a monopoly, they can set any
price they want.

You know, I was having this conversation this morning. Gas is $2.95 a gallon. But the pumps were full and no one was rioting.
I live in a poor area, and I am not that well off myself. But growing up here I have noticed something. Lower income people around here cut and cut and live on almost any budget. There is only one thing they demand. In the winter, nearly every person I know who is lower income keeps their house at about 80 or 85 degrees. And they won't be able to do that this winter. Or they will try to do it, and their bill will be $500. Then you will see the protests. Because people will take the short end of the stick all day on gasoline, but they won't keep their houses cold.

It is amazing how many people on this board are socialists at heart. This is a government-set price from a nationalized oil company.
Socialists don't set prices based on market realities, they set prices based on politics.

We have $3.00 a gallon gas, but at least we have a clean environment. You get what you pay for.How did we get a cleaner environment from $3 gas?

In a free market, there is no such thing as gouging.
Of course I understand that you detest the idea of a free market, but most thinking Americans embrace it.
