Only way you can be "not the same people" is to be substantially or predominantly American Indian, or from Carvajal, or to be a Basque.

Just about all the other tribes in Spain are pretty blended in ~ and, lo and behold, since those folks provided the greater source of immigrants to the Americas, so are Western Hemispheric Hispanics.

At the same time there are plenty of Mediterranean types who can "pass" just the same!
