WASHINGTON, October 5, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) The US National Right to Life Association approves of Harriet Miers as President Bushs judicial nominee for the Supreme Court, according to NRLC executive director David N. OSteen.
President Bush has an excellent record of appointing judges who recognize the proper role of the courts, which is to interpret the law according to its actual text, and not to legislate from the bench, OSteen wrote, according to a release. We believe that Harriet Miers is another nominee who will abide by the text and history of the Constitution.
OSteen described examples proving her pro-life leanings. According to published reports, Harriet Miers has been active since about 1980 in the Valley View Christian Church in Dallas, he said. The pastor there told the Dallas Morning News that their church is anti-abortion.
The same paper published an interview with Lorlee Bartos, Miers campaign manager in 1989 when Miers ran, successfully, for a seat on the Dallas City Council. Bartos said Miers, is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement, and, I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt. I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president.
In 1989, Miers, responding to a Lesbian/Gay Coalition of Dallas survey about whether the Texas sodomy law should be overturned, said no, that the law that made sodomy illegal should stand. The Supreme Court later overturned the law.
At a press conference about the Miers nomination Tuesday, US President George W. Bush said, I'm a pro-life President, adding, And I know her, I know her heart. I know what she believes. Remember, she was part of the search committee that helped pick Roberts. In other words, she went through the deliberations and the talking to these different candidates about what they believe. She knows exactly the kind of judge I'm looking for. And I know exactly the kind of judge she'll be, which is an excellent judge.
bump
She will gather support from the socila conservatives on a dily basis and will recieve invective and ad hominem for the committed secularists on the left and right as time goes on. In the end, her evangelical Christianity will be the issue used by the democrats to attempt derailment.
Better send over Ann Coulter and George Will to straighten out their fuzzy thinking.
Has the left started launching their attacks yet?
This inspite of the fact no one has a clue on whether she'd vote to overturn Roe or not.
Won't need to worry about the left with Coulter running around spewing venom.
"This inspite of the fact no one has a clue on whether she'd vote to overturn Roe or not."
Not exactly no one. Dobson and Nathan Hecht see to be pretty sure of it.
Hecht is not doing her any favors, there. The Left is going to go berserk on her if they're convinced she's pro-life. Abortion rights are their paramount concern.
Here, we argue about whether she's a good sensible "common man" kind of choice, or a Bush crony; enough of a legal scholar, or just the best the President could stand up to the Dems. But the Dems don't care about those distinctions, it doesn't matter to them precisely what sort of nominee the President sends up to subvert their right to murder babies.
Hecht should keep his insider knowledge to himself. Could save her a lot of trouble.
But what about her Dental records? < /sarcasm > off
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
I agree; and I saw a fabulous young Air Force Captain at a Republican luncheon yesterday (the guest speaker) who gave us a lot of good news about Iraq.
He was VERY enthusiastic and proud of the work that he and his buddies have and are accomplishing.
And Christian Bashing will look sooooo bad just before 2006 elections.
Not exactly no one. Dobson and Nathan Hecht see to be pretty sure of it.

Really??
"Yes, she goes to a pro-life church," Justice Hecht said, adding, "I know Harriet is, too." The two attended "two or three" anti-abortion fund-raising dinners in the early 1990's, he said, but added that she had not otherwise been active in the anti-abortion movement. "You can be just as pro-life as the day is long and can decide the Constitution requires Roe" to be upheld, he said."
From NYT
And I would say her being pro-life is exactly why Dobson supports her too.
Unflippin believable the people (maybe not you) that want their own brand of judicial activism.
But with Meyers, how will they prove it, guilt by association? Didn't work with Ashcroft.
There remains the substantial conflict of interest in the President nominating his own personal lawyer to the position. Not a single person who supports this nomination has addressed this 800-pound gorilla.

I had sort of forgotten about this. How would that effect her tenure on the court? Do you know?
Striking down "bad law" is not judicial activism
