Only Amazon or Mapes's publisher, St. Martins Press knows for sure. Well if she has too, Mapes can always....well you know....fake it.

Yeah right in the first chapter she brags about how great and thorough her fact checking is, then she says buckhead posted his debunking of her story before it even aired on TV. He posted hours afterwards. Gross error right in the beginning of the book that a quick check would have revealed.

I think you can claim at least an assist on this one.

To: RatherBiased.com; Buckhead
From the link to the incorrect assertions:
That first entry, posted by a longtime Republican political activist lawyer who used the name Buckhead, set the tone for what was to come. There was no analysis of what the documents actually said, no work done to look at the content, no comparison with the official record, no phone calls made to check the facts of the story, nothing beyond a cursory and politically motivated examination of the typeface.
So... according to the now fired Mapes, all stories should have their content thoroughly discussed, whether they are made up or not. In the old days that was called mud-slinging. Sounds like something right tout of the DNC play book... Investigate because of the seriousness of the charge, who cares if there is no evidence.
Bill Clinton was charged by a woman with rape. I don't recall the MSM or democrats screaming for an investigation.

... Mary Mapes's book, Truth and Duty... The title of her book is "Truth and Duty". I think that right there is the problem with the left-wing MSM. It's largely composed of zealots who think they're on some kind of mission from God to bring The Truth to the ignorant masses.
Newsflash, Mary: All I want from you is the news. Not the truth, the news. I'll decide what the truth is.

That was intentional. It's called "spin", and it's meant to mislead those readers who don't have the common sense to research the facts. (ie most MSM viewers.) Just as she and Dan did with the forged documents, she is directing her false information at her regular demographic: sheeple.
To: Doctor Raoul
Well if she has too, Mapes can always....well you know....fake it. For some insane and unknown reason, that made me think of Meg Ryan's deli scene in When Harry Met Sally.

Could anything be more ludicrous than suggesting that the criticism occurred prior to the story on TV?
How does she suggest that buckhead got the news before it aired.

Saint Martin's Press can kiss this bookshop goodbye; the sales critter was less than happy to see us go.
Mapes' excerpt was just too much.

I was told that the first posting claiming the documents were fakes had gone up on Free Republic before our broadcast was even off the air! How had the Web site even gotten copies of the documents? We hadnt put them online until later. Man, this woman's full of crap! Just from memory, I know the above is 100% wrong, because I was on that thread that night. Buckhead's posting was shortly after it first aired.
Nice fact-checking, Mopes/Dopes - you moron!! Just as diligent as you were with the original fake documents. You, Rathernot - the whole gang of leftist liars, you can all just kiss my ass.

My favorite excerpt was how she heard it was being discussed on obscure websites she had never heard of before, such as Free Republic and Powerline, so she ran right over to Daily Kos and checked it out....

I think she only said the part about the right leaning web sites, not about running to daily kos, that was just a witty comic parody

Perhaps she had a physical reaction, and was gasping and gulping for air, sweating and shaking, and checking out websites full of hyperconservative vitriol. Perhaps she recoiled in horror and shock at all the refutation and cruel mockery of her first chapter, as if a right wing political jihad had been born, with her as the target!!!
Or maybe her publisher did.
