U.S. Companies and Islamic Law
The Washington Times ^ | September 6, 2005 | Rachel Ehrenfeld and Alyssa A. Lappen

It's time for the United States to limit financial transactions that involve American companies to governance by secular laws. The swelling oil revenues of the Gulf states have created demand from those markets for U.S. investments in banks, real estate and industrial stocks. Most has been invested according to the usual financial guidelines, but the recent surge in revenues has also stimulated the demand to impose Islamic law (sharia) on financial investments.

Tuesday morning I was sitting at my desk at my job when an announcement was made for the entire facility to hear that Ramadan had begun.

I almost fell out of my chair.

I guess I better stock up on abayas for next week when officials from the Ministry of Virtue and Vice make their rounds to see if women are properly covered.

If I didn't know better I'd say we're slowly losing our country.

Why should the onset of Ramadan affect you? It certainly made no difference to terrorists in Iraq who just killed six more noncombatants in the name of their non-entity.

I'll die of old age waiting for the formal announcement of Christian holidays like the announcement of Ramadan the other day.

For a second I though I was in Saudi Arabia.

If we're going to have separation of church and state, it applies to Islam as well as Christianity. And yes, I work for a state agency.

Sorry. From your post I mistakenly thought you were an American worker laboring in an Islamic-dominated country. Tell us where you're at and who you're working for. In for a pound...

well, we too got the ramadan announcement, and i work for a private company. in fact, the last few months we have gotten memos on work place respect for other cultures, read that to mean respect for muslims. we know have quite a few muslims working for us, probably sleepers. what i still dont seem to comprehend, the most vociferous libs in my company are jews, they bash bush while selecting a donut before staff meetings, go figure. now we all know who wants to burn israel off of the map and somehow, saying bush is the guy wont win you any prizes. oh well

These nitwits had to be told when ramadan began? Nobody ever had to tell me when Christmas or Easter began.

Exactly. And I took it as almost an in-your-face type of thing -like we're here, it's going to be our way, get used to it.

The atmosphere is such that no one can even do anything to make it fair-like, for the sake of "illustrating absurdity by being absurd", announcing Christian holidays.

We're going to wake up one day and our way of life will be a distant memory.

I'm awake. I can remember...

I can't seem to find anyone that cares, in the gum't... We don't count for much. ("Now, then, how much did you make last year", says to IRS to the citizen)?

I believe the start of ramadan depends on the phases of the moon, and it takes one of the imams (I don't know how to spell it, but they are just a$$holes)to proclaim when ramadan begins.

May the piss (I can't spell peace either)of the prophet be upon them

Why should the onset of Ramadan affect you?

It should make you lock your doors, load your weapons and peer out the windows occasionally. Allah is on the prowl.

Don't they know that the ACLU has argued sucessfully that exposure to religion makes people feel different? Next time I suggest that you go to the nurse and complain that the announcement made you break out in a rash.

I see your point but I've been able to locate the moon pretty reliably as well.
