Already looking beyond Referendums C and D.

At this week's meeting of the interim committee on school finance, she proposed what she called Referendum E, for 2006 or 2007. It would provide additional money ...

She already had a sales pitch based on the letter E: "Everyone's Effort for Equity and Excellence in Education." Much of the money ...

Committee Republicans were appalled.

Sen. Nancy Spence, R-Centennial, described the proposal Friday as "absolutely ludicrous." Her party would never go for anything like that unless Amendment 23 were removed from the state constitution first...

Republican opposition might be predictable, but even some committee Democrats got nervous. Sen. Ron Tupa, D-Boulder, said that with C and D still hanging fire, it was a poor time to raise the specter of yet another tax increase. It would just play into the hands of the Independence Institute's Jon Caldara and his allies, he said.

No action was taken on the proposal.

Independence Institute's Jon Caldara

There is a guy to keep an eye on. Governor? House of Representatives? Senate?
He would be good in any of the three jobs.
IMHO, a darn good replacement for Owens

According to the National Conference of State legislatures, 30 states including Colorado operate under a tax or expenditure limitation.

So TABOR, the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights in Colorado, is by no means radical or completely unusual.

It is just the most effective limit in a long line of efforts by voters around the nation to gain control over their pocketbooks.

Weakening TABOR by giving politicians five years to grow government as much as they want, simply doesn't make sense.

Jon Caldara would complement Tancredo, should he want to run for a national office.

Colorado could use Caldara's insight and passion in the state house as well. Caleara is not ready for prime-time, as in running for governor or US Senator.

I agree with you 100% about Colorado's TABOR, but watch them political critters. R & D.
They will continue to whittle away at it. Don't forget Douglas Bruce on your Thank You Card list.
