BART (San Francisco) increases security after threat against NYC subway

BART said it was increasing security today in response to reports of a threat against the New York subway system.

The system has operated on a heightened security alert, level orange, since the first London subway attack on July 7. After learning of the New York threat, BART said it was going on "an enhanced heightened alert."

Bathrooms at underground stations, which have been closed since shortly after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, remain locked. BART says it worries that chemical or biological poisons could be spread into an underground station through a bathroom's ventilation system.

San Francisco Municipal Railway officials briefly went to an orange alert this afternoon, then dropped back down to a yellow alert. Spokeswoman Maggie Lynch declined to discuss the reasons or additional security precautions.

I think that while we have the specific warning about the NY subway system, it's only prudent for other areas to heighten security and alertness as well.

I ride BART everyday and it'd be no problem for someone to walk onto the station with a bomb. Hardly ever see any police or security there. Just pick your right hour and you could kill dozens.

Al-Qaeda bombing San Francisco would be like the IRA bombing Boston.

Well, they tried to blow up LAX in 2000.

Just because a city has a lot of leftists it doesn't mean they are immune. AQ wants to kill us all. This is exactly what the leftists don't grasp: they will be killed too, even if they keep defending AQ.

"We'll spray them with patchouli instead of AirWick!"
