The Washington Monument was evacuated Friday after a bomb threat was called in to local police.
U.S. Park Police Sgt. Scott Fear said the call came in at 2:24 p.m. EDT and the monument was evacuated a short time later. An initial search turned up nothing worrisome.

Why would anyone who actually wanted to bomb something, phone in to tell the authorities they are going to bomb it? If the point is to kill people with a bomb, doesn't that defeat the purpose?
