Frum's conduct has raised two questions in my mind:
(1) Was his departure from the White House after his wife bragged about him originating the phrase 'Axis of Evil' voluntary, and
(2) did Harriet Miers play some part in that departure?
I'm not making accusations, mind you, but enquiring minds want to know.
I think you might be correct that Mr. Frum has an axe to grind. Andy Card has probably already been in W's office trying to disavow the story. Watch for him to be sent our to rally the troops.
He cannot be serious.
It does make you want to go, Hmmmmm.
I like the direction your inquiry is taking!!
And on Rove going before the grand jury he came up with this gem:
This is an administration that faces a lot of troubles. It needs its friends. This -- in the first term, the administration often had the idea that if you turned on your friends, you could make points with your enemies.
He's a bitter and very small man.
One thing is certain: Frum will never again be a part of ANY GOP administration, ever.
I don't think there is any doubt that Frum was fired, and that he was likely fired at the behest of Harriett Miers.
It is worth noting that he didn't stay long. I guess Bush didn't appreciate his talent, such as it is.
If you want my theory, it's that he was caught in a WH sting to catch leakers. When Kristol got egg all over his face, by saying that his WH sources told him that Rudy Guiliani was to be the next homeland security chief, prior to a State of the Union address, I waited to see who was the likely leaker. Several months later, Frum, one of the speechwriters and former Kristol crony at the Weakly Standard leaves the WH. Frum has been a bitter man ever since.
