BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- A Chinese activist was missing on Sunday after being badly beaten when he and a foreign journalist went to a village in southern China, other activists and friends said.

It is more interesting as a reminder of the lack of civil rights in China...as an observor of the underground Church will tell you.
I heard they beat him to death.
"Taishi has become a test case for local-level democracy in China since villagers launched a campaign in July to eject the elected village chief, suspecting him of embezzling public funds in a deal involving the sale of a large tract of village land."
Was this "test case" supposed to be kept secret and then bulldozed over like the alledged several villages that disappeared because of H5N1 outbreak?
