I am always uncertain whether "e" or the "i" comes first. If it's pronounced "I" the "e" comes first but if it's pronounced "E" it's the other way around ;-)

I believe that's specifically for words that are of German origin. With "ie" or "ei" combinations, you pronounce the second letter.
