United News of India (India Defence) ^

Russia has asked the international community to consider Iran's legal right to peaceful nuclear programmes. "We have agreed that there is unity on the ultimate goal - nuclear nonproliferation," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Paris yesterday after the meeting of the Russian-French Security Council in which Russian and French Foreign and Defence Ministers participated.

"We should take into consideration and respond to Iran's legal interests in peaceful nuclear energy within the sphere of economic development," Lavrov noted, adding that Tehran should be treated as a full member of the international community in regional and global developments.

He told Interfax news agency that although the positions of Russia and France were not identical, they were not completely opposite either, sharing the same direction.

Maybe we can sign a treaty with Iran and specify their nuclear weapons can only be used against Russia.

"Do we still send financial aid to Russia?"

Of course we do! They're our friends; our buddies; our pals!!

And we'll likely be at war with them within 10 years. Lenin may be dead, but his stink lingers on.

Didn't Kruschev say one time that they will hang us with our own rope???? Unless we do tactical nuke strikes, I think it is inevitable that Iran will get the bomb. But if we do that then Russia won't be our huckleberry anymore will they?

Yes, they have right to peaceful nuclear energy. That is why they have been offered guarantees for nuclear fuel by EU, IAEA and Washington. (but not to go ahead with Uranium enrichment) Now we just have to wait and see if they accept it. It is a question of trust and lost prestige (and some billions of waisted money in Tehran)

I guess that is as well the reason why Rafsanjani has been given more powers by the "Leader" (the last word should be in German).

"We have agreed that there is unity on the ultimate goal - nuclear nonproliferation," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said but apparently the only way to prevent proliferation is to label it peaceful nuclear tech, and when it's proved via mushroom cloud not to be peaceful... "oops so sorry, how could we have known?" It's not as if chants of "Death to Russia" are common in Iran. Why should Russian officials care about an Iranian N-bomb...

Do you know details? As far as I know the main item is Nunn-Lugar program to secure or dismantle nuclear weapons, second much smaller is to NGOs and for promotion of democracy. The total is well below one billion dollar. If I am mistaken (as it happens to me sometimes), please correct me.

Of course they don't, we are Iran's primary enemy and it serves Russia strategic best interests to see our nation go to crap when NYC or LA gets vaporized. What I would suggest is that the USA provide Chechnya 'peaceful' nuclear technology, with our FIRM guarantees that we will monitor the situation to make sure all the fissal material gets back to us. It's what Kennedy or Reagan would do in dealing with the Russians. They only respect and respond to hard ball.

Islamists in Chechnya and bin Laden are the best friends. As well you can give nukes directly to him, "with our FIRM guarantees" of course. A jolly good idea!

STFU Russia. Noone likes you, and noone ever liked you. Quit trying to draw attention to yourself, you only hurt yourself.

And America has the legal right to vaporize Russia the day russian nuclear material burns over American troops or citys.

Time to park a few Nuclear subs off shore Russia to underscore the point. As Russia just broke their word on selling advanced long range missiles to Syria, it is obvious that Russia is supplying the Jihad. After all, the Jihadi do not carry M16's.

Kinda time to get serious with the Kremlin.
