"George W. Bush... must be stopped!"
Congressman James McGovern (D- MA-3rd) | 10/12/05 | McGovern/Hill

Posted on 10/12/2005 1:22:41 PM PDT by pabianice

Received this in today's snail mail.

Here is my reply.

===========================================

October 12, 2005

Dear Congressman McGovern:

Thank you for your letter regarding the need for the Democrats to recapture Congress next year. In order for me to support you, I need additional information:

1. Please identify "the terrible damage" the Republicans are doing to our country (a) here and (b) abroad. Be specific.

2. Please describe how your repsonse to Hurricane Katrina and your management of FEMA would have been superior to that of the Bush Administration. Give examples.

3. Differentiate how historical "cronyism" within the Democratic Party between 1865 and 1994 is preferable to the cronyism within the Republican Party between 1994 and 2005.

4. Please describe how the Iraq War is based upon "fiction" in light of Al Qaeda's having publicly taken credit for 9-11 and bragging that some of its principal bases and terrorists are in Iraq.

5. Explain how you can take the word of Koffi Anan, an unindicted co-conspirator in the Oil for Food Scandal and father of one of the scam's chief architects, over that of George Bush. Extra credit for successfully explaining how you support as viciously anti-Semitic an organization as the UN.

6. Explain how throwing an ADDITIONAL ten trillion dollars at poverty will somehow solve the problems of general health care, education, jobs, housing, the environment, and veterans' benefits when that sum has already failed to do so since 1964.

7. Describe how Bush has destroyed our civil liberties when you remain one of Congress' most staunch advocates of outlawing the private possession of firearms and of requiring all states to recognize gay marriage.

8. Explain why Ton DeLay is wrong in wanting to see you defeated.

9. Finally, please note that I do not live in your congressional district.

Sincerely,

You forgot:

10. Have you read this letter that one Sheila Hill (if that's her real name) wrote and sent out in your name?

Nice one! If my experience with my Maryland Senators and Representatives is any indication, you will receive a form letter full of the same garbage in the original letter. But it's still good to let them know you're not buyin' it....

I thought this was just another anti-Bush/Miers post after reading the headline.

Excellent work! I scribbled similar messages on recent GOP fundraising letters claiming how the President's "agenda" (which is?) must be moved forward to secure the homeland (borders? immigration?), fight the war on terror (declared yet, against whom?) and improve life for all Americans (and 15M illegal aliens?).

A great idea and a great response, unfortunately this probably wound up in the trash barrel of some intern.

I'm stuck with Markey and I don't think him or McGovern are going anywhere soon.

Perhaps a better idea would be to shred his letter and send it back to him in the business reply envelope. Or better yet, put a brick in a box and tape the business reply envelope to the box, maybe with a note "could you throw this through your window for me?".

Remember, Congressmen are our Leaders, not our Representatives - our opinion doesn't matter, and in this state, neither does our vote. My vote and your's were both cancelled out by a vacant lot or person who died in the '20s.

I am elated to see the Democratic party still trying to stop W. I guess they forgot about term limits. And if they are ticked now, wait until next time they lose to an actual (hopefully) conservative Republican.

McGovern is another MA, airhead politician, in the Kennedy-Kerry mold (but without even the jello), looking to make a little hay from the President's lack of popularity.
