Yeah. We're in big trouble. This is where too much compromise leads. If you make power trump principle, pretty soon you have a crisis like this one.

Bingo. This is a clash of the pragmatics and the conservatives for the soul of the republican party

Conservatives have compromised on big government, and spending, ceding power to the Pragmatics.

The Pragmatics won on this nomination, despite GWB's assertion that he would nominate conservative justices - principles were compromised in favor of a perceived "confirmability factor".

This clash between two wings of the Republican party was inevitable. If conservatives lose, there is no end to compromising on principle - which is to say, there are no principles.

Conservatives had to draw the line. This is it.

Maybe GW ought to invite Teddy to the Whitehouse to watch a movie and ask him what he would do? It worked before with education reform and the 'no child left behind' act? (sarc/off)

It's time for GW to be a leader IMHO........

And your proof that this is so in Miers case is???? That's an assumption. Funny how all these Miers critics assume their is some magic super Conservative hero being overlooked that can get pass the Senate if Bush just pulls Meirs. All the critics are saying "trust us, this is a bad idea" OH? Prove it. Sorry but I can look at Bush's Judicial picks. Point for HIM. Why should I trust the critics judgment?
