"However..the way he treated his wife, ethics issues...etc would keep him from ever getting elected."

Admittedly, I don't know the details of how he treated his wife...nonetheless, I am aware of some issues there. So yes, I agree this would have to be addressed.

I recall a few years ago when his campaign called me for my regular donation and I turned them down. I turned them down then because of the pac issues and the rumors of his marital indiscretions...and now we know the rest of the story since he stepped down as Speaker.

I am over that now and I want him to return. We need someone like Newt who can stand and deliver.

The contract with America is what got the Republicans in power. We are still riding Gingrich's coattails. If he runs, I would be for him (depending on some key issues).

"Newt and hillary agreeing on healthcare issues.
No thanks"

Actually, they agreed to agree on setting uniform data set standards and to promote electronic medical claims filing. While uniform standards are common to the internet and other fields, they are alien to medicine. It was a logical, rational arena where the government can actually help.

The surprising part was that Hillary was on-board. Most leftists are glad to let the current system struggle and fail since they feel it boosts the case for Single Payor. But, Hillary is trying to posture as a moderate these days and she needs to put that previous healthcare debacle behind her.

Here's Mr. Gingrich's advice on the Medicare Prescription drug bill:

"If you are a fiscal conservative who cares about balancing the federal budget, there may be no more important vote in your career than one in support of this bill. (Source: American Enterprise Institute, 2003)

I'd like to hear him justify this advice now that the estimate for the new entitlement is $1.2 trillion over the next decade.

"Newt wouldn't make it to Super Tuesday.

Newt apparently forgets why he left the House. Be assured his opponents (both GOP and Dem) haven't."

I cetainly haven't forgotten. I am in complete agreement with you on this.

I like Newt(kinda of) but can you imagine what the MSM wold doto his candicacy? It would be a bloodbath. They HATE him.

Newt is well liked by libertarians and many Democrats. MSM slander of Newt could backfire this time around. I think Americans are becoming sick and tired of the sick and tired crowd.

Newt is a real conservative... probably not what a rebublican is today. So maybe he is a RINO.

Truth is that I would campaign for him but I'm pretty sure that he would not get the nomination.

His leadership and the Contract with America gave Republicans power like they never had for 30 years. Unfortunately they just never learned how to use it.

If this is about who would be a better candidate than Newt, I'd vote for Gen. Tommy Franks.

He already did.

" Does anyone believe it makes sense to pay billions for kidney dialysis and not pay for the preventive care drugs that lets people keep their kidneys healthy for only pennies per day? Let's face it, a Medicare drug benefit is inevitable. Liberals, some of whom are running for president, would pass it without any of the changes contained in this bill, and have said as much. However, to meet the future demands of retiring baby boomers the same liberals would either raise taxes massively or shift to a bureaucratic rationing of care--both disastrous policies."

That might be a very important badge of honor for Newt. He is the only politician with an actual plan.

But since he is not really an "alpha male" he would be better off to find himself a figure head type and just manage him/her from the sidelines.

I'm thinking an actor like Arnold would be perfect.

I think it comes down to people wanting to prove they are the badest conservative in the world. Anyone who thinks Newt isn't a conservative must not understand what conservatism is. Few people have made the compelling arguments for smaller government and lower taxes as well as Newt. Maybe Mussolini would suit these people.

>Unfortunately the Contract with America, while good at getting voter support, did not deliver its promises---i.e., a deafult.

You have been misled by the MSM. The CFA was a complete success. The promise was that all the listed issues would be brought to the house floor for a vote...

Greetings ichabod1:

We bet there's relationship between those who hate Gingrich and those who want to give Miers a chance.

Let's say I admire Gingrich's political vision and also feel Miers deserves a Senate Judicial Committee hearing. Suppose that makes me unreasonable?

He's been running for several months now. Apparently he has seen some of the polls so he is unsure now.
