Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he might run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 unless some candidates promote his ideas.
"There are circumstances where I will run," Gingrich told a news conference before a speech at the University of Mobile.
Earlier this year, in an interview with The Associated Press, Gingrich said, "Anything seems possible."
Asked under what circumstances he would enter the race, Gingrich, 62, said he plans to continue traveling the United States talking about the issues.
"My hope is that five or six candidates are going to jump up, steal all of my ideas, and I will be able to relax and go golf," he said.
The former Georgia congressman said if nobody picks up on the ideas and the country thinks they are significant, a campaign is possible. But he added that's "so far down the road and so much less important than my two grandchildren."

I figured he's go for it.
Better him than some of the (R) senators I heard about.

Better him than some of the (R) senators I heard about. ..or liberals like Giuliani and Rice.
If you've never watched Newt speak, he's a real treat. I still have GOPAC cassettes from the late 80s that I listen to on long drives.

Newt wouldn't make it to Super Tuesday.
Newt apparently forgets why he left the House. Be assured his opponents (both GOP and Dem) haven't.

I would love to see him run. He would benefit greatly from the collapse of the leftist formerly mainstream media. Ten years ago there wasn't enough alternative media to assist him when he was regularly demonized.

Gingrich makes my RINO alert radar go off.

LOL exactly what has he ever done thats Rinoish? reading the previous 10 posts I cannot imagine why ANYONE would get into politics. Even when those here are pretty much on the same wavelength there is a (hugh) diversity of opinions on the man that did a lot build the current Republican Party majority in Congress.
To: SF Republican
Exactly. No matter what you do...you would be trashed by someone. But...Newt's already in politics. Those who would trash him...have already done it...
So its nothing new.

I like Newt because he is consistent, and an Economist. Very few in DC can even spell "Accounting" or "Economics," or "Finance."
FWIW, W, as well, needs to understand all three. It's too late now though.
In my opinion.
