Chris Shays Lauds Iraqi Constitution's 25% Quota for Women Legislators [If It's So Great, Resign!]
Fox & Friends Weekend | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 10/15/2005 4:39:06 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

RINO Connecticut Congressman Chris Shays just completed an interview on Fox & Friends Weekend focusing on today's election in Iraq on approval of its proposed constitution.

In singing the constitution's praises, Shays gushed that it was "huge" that it requires that 25% of Iraqi's congressional seats be reserved for women. Shays decried that in comparison, "only 16%" of US congressmen are women.

Really, Chris? Hard quotas are "huge"? So you would favor that here? Then why stop with sex-based quotas? Why not seats reserved on the basis of race, religion and who knows what else? Don't Tampa Bay Devil Ray fans deserve a guaranteed voice in DC, for example?

For that matter, why wait for our constitution to be changed to reflect your quota-loving views?

If you're so upset over the mere 16% female representation in Congress, why not take matters into your own hands? Resign today and support a woman to replace you!

Regular readers on my Fox & Friends Weekend threads know that I love to hate Ellen Ratner, the short, liberal end of the show's "Long and the Short of It" segment.

Ellen was away today, and substituting for her was Cholene Espinoza from something called "Talk Radio News." The low-keyed Espinoza struck me as somewhat odd, and I actually found myself missing the obnoxiousness of Ratner!

It is true that when the Yankees play in Tampa, they usually have more fans in the stands than the Devil Rays!

But hey, just because a group doesn't necessarily exist doesn't mean we can't enforce a quota to represent them!

LOL! Good idea. Maybe we could get his congressional office # and address up here so we can send that suggestion to him. ;^)

Hope you caught Chris Matthews on the TODAY SHOW this AM...glad I was in bed and couldn't reach anything to throw at the screen.

What a screed he did on Rove and how "poor" President Bush is going to have to cut him loose and call in the bench...like Reagan had to call in Baker during Iran-Contra.

Matthews couldn't hide his glee to the point that I promised him a punch in the nose if I ever see him on the street.

Figured if Landrieu can state she will slap the President, I can say I'd slap Matthews.

Re: Reserving seats in the Iraq House. It's the old Stalinist 'Command Economy' model applied to the political sphere. It didn't work then and reserving seats for disparate minority groups won't work in this case. The Free Market of ideas must determine who is seated. Any other way thwarts the will of the people.

Missed it - thanks for your report. For whatever reason, when Saturday rolls around I switch to Fox & Friends Weekend. With Matt & Katie gone from Today on weekends, I enjoy excoriating Julian Phillips and Ellen Ratner!

Well said. Which really makes one wonder, why does wimpy Chris Shays think hard quotas are "huge"?

When ROVE is not indicted, one would do well to have investments in the funeral industry.

Lots of libruls are going to be committing mass "Jim Jones".

Lots of libruls

Excellent phonetic spelling! And as we all know, real "Murricans" aren't libruls ;-)

You're making an assumption there will be a free market of ideas in Iraq. I think the best we can hope for there is an Islamic influenced social welfare state that's not aggressive towards it's neighbors.

It would seem rather obvious that the 50% quota for those with less than a 40 IQ and the 75% with a penchant for deceit has been met.

One can only hope that "we the people" may look forward to many more Dianne Feinsteins, Olympia Snowes, Hillary Clintons, Barbara Boxers, and Mary Landrieus, to be elected to keep our house in disorder.

No, I was just stating what would be the preferred method of determining who is elected and seated. Intervention by strongly religious groups who effectively 'Allocate' seats according to their strict and encapsulated ideologies is just another form of this quota system and just as bad.

Regardless of the RINO, I didn't know about this and it does seem pretty significant to me. A stick to the eye of Al Qaeda.
