STARR'S CHOICE
In choosing Kenneth Starr to vouch for the social conservative credentials of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, Dr. James Dobson picked a man who 24 years ago as a Justice Department official did the same for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
Former Whitewater prosecutor Starr, now law school dean of Pepperdine University, appeared on conservative activist Dobson's radio program Wednesday. Starr called Miers "a very, very strong Christian [who] should be a source of great comfort and assistance to people in the households of faith around the country." In 1981, Starr advised President Ronald Reagan of O'Connor's pro-life stance and ignored her pro-choice record in the Arizona Senate.
The talk with Starr on Wednesday's program was overshadowed by a long segment in which Dobson denied receiving inside information from the White House about where Miers stands on Roe v. Wade.
It's sad that some many have learned so little over the past 25 years. It's a never ending cycle. Complain about the judiciary. Blame it on Democrats. Blindly vote for Republican. Allow the Republican President to appoint a stealth candidate. Trust the Republican President's choice that ordinarily ends up becoming a leftist. Repeat the cycle over again.
Hillary for President!/s
I completely agree. Nevertheless, the headline creates a false comparison between Miers and O'Connor. The first thing that leaped into my mind is a headline like, "Jewish leaders oppose Miers; Opposed Hitler in 1939."
Novak actually predicted the Miers nomination in a recent article, or perhaps an inside source tipped him off. Just thought I'd throw that out, cause he's bound to get ripped once or twice in this thread.
Reagan backed O'Connor too in 1981. What a RINO.
Harriet Miers was a Democrat throughout the Reagan presidency. That leads to the logical conclusion that it is something else that motivated her switch. Career opportunities, perhaps?
She switched when she became an evangelical Christian. That point is clearly on the record.
There are plenty of people who profess Christianity and hold left-wing and/or anti-constructionist opinions. John Kerry, for example. Shall we believe his political decision making is really influenced by his profession of Catholicism?
The President underwent a similar conversion to Miers and says she shares his judicial philosophy - will she too then be motivated by that shared faith to support rights for illegal aliens above those of citizens? We she as he support affirmative action and other racist/sexist policies? Does she, as he, believe in an open-ended Commerce clause?
Moreover... the record shows she became an evangelical Christian in 1979... switched to GOP a decade later. So unless she was in a coma throughout the Reagan presidency, that wasn't it either.
Since the premise of most of the statements in your post are wrong, I'm not going to bother trying to reply.
Well, imagine that. I'm wrong, you're right, that's all there is to it, and you don't have to address a single thing. Life is easy when you don't think your way through it!
"Starr should be the poster for the Just-Trust-Me, Kool-Aid drinkers."
Do NOT diss Mr. Starr.
Especially if you can't do it any more originally than that.
