Two articles by Harriet Miers (is her writing as bad as they say?)

I guess I have to comment given this post is soliciting comment on her writing. I looked up these articles because my hunch was that particularly clumsy or vague passages she had written were being selectively presented that most likely did not represent her ability to communicate or make argument via the written word.

I have to say that, after reading these two articles, I think the earlier article by Brooks was not unfair nor unrepresentative.

These are very poorly written and in the first article -- the one most pertinent in terms of subject matter vis-a-vis her nomination -- is meandering and vague in ostensibly presenting an argument.

On the other hand, I could see myself in the shine she put on my shoes.

You didn't get this from The Onion?

Hmmm ... looks at fingernails ... maybe Justice O'Connor isn't that bad a legal mind. /no sarc

But we now have a solid three votes against Roe v. Wade /sarc

If she makes her peanut butter cookies by pressing the tops with a fork just like grandma used to do, she has my support!

My grandmother used to make the best lemon pound cake.

And she absolutely despised FDR.

I miss her.

"However, discerning correctly synergies from a merger "

dear lord, I hope that's a typo.

You ignorant fool!

You're right! I forgot to mention that she makes a mean cup of coffee.

Thanks for the heads up.

"The same liberties that ensure a free society make the innocent vulnerable to those who prevent rights and privileges and commit senseless and cruel acts. Those precious liberties include free speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of liberties, access to public places, the right to bear arms and freedom from constant surveillance. We are not willing to sacrifice these rights because of the acts of maniacs. "

I now approve vigorously of this Lady!

I take mine black.

Golly. I have to say, BTW, that it been a pleasure meeting most of the denizins here, and kibitzing and so forth. All the better that we are having fun for a worthy cause.

I do so wish that the President will soon fine a face-saving way to extract himself and the country from this spell of discomfort.

It seems she is getting slammed hard for poor writing quality and people are laughing and joking about how terrible it is

"They" said, and still say, the same thing about Clarence Thomas. Personally, I couldn't care less how well she writes. I'm a whole lot more concerned about how she will rule, ie., with "judicial restraint" and "strict constructionism".

"They" said, and still say, the same thing about Clarence Thomas.

I don't think anyone ever stated that about Thomas.

The way to address such a criticism, against anyone, is to read what they have written oneself.

I posted these two articles for that purpose so we could all read full articles by her and make our own judgements.

But seriously, this is all about lowering expectations.

I've recently (like watching this Miers event) become quite cynical (oops) about the smarts of the populace. If a third of the FReepers can become sheep with the snap of the fingers, what about ma and pa public?

Well, I've got myself in a mightly low mood with that thought. Time to hit the sack.

I understand, and I appreciate your post - - the more info the better. I just don't know what the quality of her writing ability means in the big picture.

Regards,
LH

P.S. Yeah, they said that about Thomas.

I do so wish that the President will soon fine a face-saving way to extract himself and the country from this spell of discomfort.

It seems the only way that extraction will occur is if nearly all perceptions of this event were not colored by the old media complex. And that will not happen.

The old established/liberal/socialist media is America's most ruthless, relentless, and destructive enemy.

What.......... no sense of humor?

On the contrary. Inside joke. Dark siders play as though they get insulted without cause, and I dropped a "You ignorant fool" on Rodney King, out of the blue, on a recent "Can't we all get along" post. He listed the insults coming from Mier defenders, and challenged who would be first to throw a dart. It wasn't me ;-(

Joke has probably run it's complete life, unlike that lame "Bush's fault."

Oh, except all this stuff with the Mires nomination? That -is- Bush's fault. /sigh/
