OU Stadium Security On Red Alert For Saturday's Game
KOTV Channel 6 Tulsa ^ | 10-17-05 | Staff Reporter KOTV

Posted on 10/17/2005 6:58:47 PM PDT by OKSooner

If you're heading to OU's home game against Baylor Saturday, get ready for something new.

The University will give an evacuation plan to fans heading through the gates.

OU President David Boren mailed season ticket holders a letter that tells them to get to the game early, because searches will be going on at all stadium gates.

This comes after 21-year-old Joel Hinrichs III killed himself with a home-made bomb outside the stadium on October 1.

Investigators say the blast was an isolated incident.

Of course it was an isolated incident; that's why the stadium security will be on "red alert" this week.

Boren's a buttboy for the Islamofascist muslimes.

I asked the same questions very early on. If it's "just a suicide".... and "there's no evidence" he tried to enter the stadium...

Why the additional cameras...?

Why no more halftime passes...??

Why the additional security as all remaining games...???

Do they think another depressed loner who has no ties to Islam might try to commit suicide outside the stadium, while having no intent to harm others?

I wish I could get mine out of there... but he's about done..

What several of us have done though is give the phone banks that call us parents and alums for donations the business and use Boren as the excuse to send them packing.

Yep, if there's nothing to see here...move along... then why the changes?

We are left to wonder either 1)If this has been a lone suicide then why has the response has been to dramatically tighten security. or 2) wonder about the incompetence to begin with if such security measures should have been there all along, but weren't.

Went to the Ohio State vs. Michigan State game. No increase in security at all. Heck, FR is the only place I have heard this entire story at all.

My son is in the OSU marching band. I drove him to the stadium where he had to be at 5:00 am for the noon kickoff. Every band member has to go through a checkpoint where they are scanned, their instrument case is searched and all items they bring in (ie drinks, snack ... etc) are searched. It's like an airport. However, I think this is since 9-11 and not neccessarily from the OU incident from a couple of weeks ago.

That is pretty interesting about the band members going through security.

OSU is relatively strict about the fans in and around the stadium. I have never gone to a game before 9-11, so I'm not sure what things were like before.

That's because OSU already had more security then we had. Gate 7's security was a joke at best on that Saturday -- everyone I talked to in our section said the same thing -- purses/bags were not checked.

I am all for more security.

Note to all: This OSU is The Ohio State University not Oklahoma State or Oregon State. There is only ONE true OSU and that is in Columbus, Ohio. Former Buckeye here who now supports the Sooners.

Since Hinrichs roommate, Cheema was working deep in the locker rooms, knowing Boren, he probably relocated him to Head Ticket taker.

Seriously, if anyone attends a game, would be very interested to know if each gate, each person entering now has a video camera focused on them. And ones facing peoples backs don't count.

I'm researching newspapers regarding Boren's past.

I've got some links at my summary regarding Boren and Tenet. They are pretty serious allegations regarding lifestyle and personal character issues. Here is what I posted to the summary at my blog regarding David L. Boren, President of OU...

OU President David L. Boren:
His past: Boren was Governor of Oklahoma from 1975 to 1979. He is also a former U.S. Senator from Oklahoma who was in office from 1979 to 1994. He is a 1963 graduate of Yale University and a Rhodes Scholar. (He has also been identified as a member of the infamous "Skull and Bones" group.)

Some serious allegations regarding his character and reasons he may be "compromised" have been presented in the past and may continue to play a role in the treatment of this case at and by officials at the University of Oklahoma.

I present to my readers the following links along with this disclaimer: None of the following can be proven beyond shadow of a doubt. However, both students at OU and people with political ties locally have confirmed the truth of the statements given at the following webpage on numerous occasions. Don your tin-foil hat if you have one, but could this be one of the reasons Boren wants to end the investigation into this case and has from the beginning tried to keep it under wraps?

George Tenet's Failure is the Legacy of David Boren Was a Bungled Sting Operation a Factor in the 9/11 Attacks?

Thanks for the ping. I agree with the sentiments of OK Sooner, others...

Lone suicide and extra security precautions don't add up. Has anyone sent this new security info to Michelle Malkin?

Liberty Rocks,

Again, the padlocking thing. At the height of this suicide bombing incident, I was trying to find information about who actually padlocked the exits. Have you or has anyone else discovered anything regarding this? It was inherently stupid if it was one of the authorities, but if they were locked before, the motive would appear much more insidious.

Can anyone post if there is info?

This might be redundant, but here's a link that will tell you what most everyone around here first heard about back when Boren was running for the US Senate:

Unfortunately, the circumstances and the guy who made it public were sleazy as hell and everyone just blew it off. Since then, it's been old news.

IIRC PhiKapMom saw a video segment in the news that pictured the locks on the gates themselves. She stated she was livid when she saw them. It is a well-known fact that the people in the stadium were made to stay inside. The padlocking of the gates was only shown on the video report PhiKapMom saw as far as I can tell. Perhaps she can remember which station it was she was watching. (o:

Letter outlines stadium security

Source.

By James S. Tyree

Transcript Staff Writer

The University of Oklahoma football fans should arrive a little early for Saturday’s game.

OU football season ticket holders Monday received a letter from university president David Boren that explains stadium security. The letter came with an urgent-looking flier entitled “For Your Safety,” which outlines evacuation procedures in words typed in all capital letters.

The Sooners’ football game this Saturday against Baylor will be their first at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium since the Oct. 1 bombing on the South Oval during the OU-Kansas State football game.

Engineering student Joel Henry Hinrichs III carried the bomb and died in the blast. Boren detailed in the letter what he, university staff and law enforcement did in the moments following the explosion, then explained stadium security procedures and resources that have been in place since shortly after the 9/11 attacks.

They include bomb X-ray devices, many security cameras placed throughout the stadium and concrete barriers to block off streets or sidewalks.

Attention on stadium security and what to do in the event of an emergency will be increased prior to this Saturday’s game, scheduled to kick off shortly after 6 p.m.

“At the next home game, all fans will be given safety instructions when they enter the stadium,” Boren wrote. “I wanted to share with you, our season ticket holders, the enclosed safety instructions (the flier) in advance so that you may have time to think about them before coming to the game. I would also advise coming to the game a little earlier since searches at gates will be particularly thorough.”

Suspicious package harmless

Transcript Staff

An unattended package atop a trash can on Elm Avenue caused a stir late Monday afternoon.

University of Oklahoma police received a call about 5:15 p.m. about the item found between Burton Hall and OU’s Elm Avenue parking garage. Lt. Bruce Chan of OUPD said officers were sent to the area, and they confirmed the suspicious package was there.

“At that point, we closed Elm from Brooks down to Boyd, though we left open the lane to exit the garage, and closed sidewalks in the immediate area,” Chan said. “The Norman Hazardous Devices Unit was called in and they responded and determined it presented no hazard. Once we had that, we reopened (the area) about 6:45 p.m.”

The item turned out to be an insulated cooler. A medical center logo was on its side, but police don’t know what it actually was used for or by whom.

The list of things we cannot do without a violation of the 4th amendment grows every day and again there are those on the FR that will say you don't have to do this or that. The same crowd also pukes out the response that we don't have the right to do most things.
