Guardian Journalist Kidnapped in Baghdad
The Times (UK) ^ | 10/19/05

Rory Carroll, Baghdad Correspondent of The Guardian, was kidnapped today in the Iraqi capital.

Carroll, a 33-year-old Irish national, was abducted as he left a house in Baghdad’s Sadr City area after watching the televised trial of Saddam Hussein with an Iraqi family.

"It is believed Mr Carroll may have been taken by a group of armed men," the newspaper said. "The Guardian is urgently seeking information about Mr Carroll’s whereabouts and condition."

Carroll is one of The Guardian’s most experienced foreign correspondents and has been based in Iraq for the last nine months.

After graduating from Trinity College, Dublin, he began his career as a reporter for the Irish News in Belfast, and was named Northern Ireland young journalist of the year in 1997.

He joined The Guardian as a home news reporter and in 1999 was posted to Rome to become Southern Europe correspondent. In 2002 he was appointed South Africa Correspondent.

Hoping that his head remains attached to his shoulders.

Never fear. Anyone connected with the anti-American, lefty Guardian is safe. He's probably dining on corned beef and cabbage as we speak.

I bet he wouldn't mind seeing some "illegitimate invader torturing baby killer US Troops" right about now...

Don't those kidnappers know the Guardian is on their side?

No kidding. Either that, or he has "gone jihadi" and is growing an ugly neck beard as we speak. If it is the former, I agree with you 100%. T.S.

P.S. Nice join date.

Rory Carroll - I wish I could sympathize.

Somehow though after having read some of the stuff he's done for the guardian I cannot. He made his deal with the devil and the devil needs to be paid his dues.

"Armed men" I can live with..."insurgents" really is a noxious term in my mind.

A few days ago I heard Rice use the term terrorists several times in response to questions from reporters using the term "insurgents."

http://wordnet.princeton.edu

defines insurgent as

"a person who takes part in an armed rebellion against the constituted authority (especially in the hope of improving conditions)"---yeah....

First guy I'd ask is Mookie The Pillsbury Doughboy, who has been unaccountably wasting oxygen for far too long now. If Zarky's boys have him I'd say he has about an even chance of a nice goat-roast party or a throat-slitting.
