A truck in a pond, a possible home invasion and a missing person. Those ingredients had law enforcement in Presque Isle hopping this morning.
According to Sergeant Joey Seeley of the P-I-P-D at about eight thirty this morning police received a report of a home invasion on route one. The owner of the home had the suspect, twenty five year old Alex Laferrriere of West Enfield, detained at gunpoint. Once police arrived a search ensued looking for a possible second suspect. A portion of route one was blocked off for an hour.
Upon further investigation it was learned Laferriere and two others were driving down a dirt road off the Doyle Road in Caribou earlier in the day when their truck slid down an embankment into a pond. Laferriere walked for more than two hours to route one. According to witness reports, he then attempted to steal a motor vehicle, and kick in the door of the home.
The second individual walked out of the woods in Caribou. The third person could not be located and a search ensued, as officers were concerned he was still in the woods and possibly suffering from hypothermia. He was eventually located at his home in Crouseville.
Laferriere has been charged with Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Attempt and Violation of Probation. (WAGM)
It needs to be pointed out that Presque Isle/Caribou is way to Hell and gone in the northern part of the state, and about thirty years 'behind' the southern part in its social attitudes.

Why do you think they say there are "two Maine's?" We moved up here for Loring Air Force Base, and retired here. I am not a local, but have lived here long enough that I don't want to move. I love the peace.
I live close enough I listened to this on my scanner. One friend called me on her cell phone to turn my scanner on, because the PQI Cops had closed off Rt 1. The MicMac Indians led the cops to the pond behind Spruce Haven where the truck ended up.
This stuff used to happen in the dead of night. Now its happening during the day light hours. Not good.
No, not good at all.
When we first moved up here for all we could tell from reading the crime news, locals breaking into the summer camps of folks "from away" seemed to be the official state sport.
:O)
People use to laugh at us for locking our home and car all the time. But after 20 years, the crime rate up here seems to be catching up.
I sure love my Home Security System.
Home Security System? I hope you have slomans shield and a loaded 12 gauge shotgun!
Hopefully, they'll revoke his probation and send him back to prison. He needs to be off the streets.
Thanks for the ping! Limestone was my old stomping ground! Loring AFB, not the end of the world, but if you stand on a soda can you can see it!
No guns here. I would shoot my own foot off.
The Home Security System is like the ADT they advertise on TV. I have sensors everywhere, and once the alarm is set, no one can cross in front of a sensor without setting it off. I trust it.
We came up here for Loring in August of 83. Were you here then?
His mo would be: Publix Skool grad with honors, avid reader of the portalnd press herald and solid believer in evloultion. In other words this guy is an idiot. Any one who comes to rutal maine and breaks into a house is an idiot. Here in rural Maine, even the fundamental preachers are armed.

You sure have that right. I think everyone around me owns a gun, except me.
In Barnard, (or is it Bowerbank?) just up the road from me, there's actually a local ordinance REQUIRING every household to have a gun and ammo, unles the occupant is prohibited from owning one. No real big home invasion problem there.
That's good to know.
Immediately after reading the headline, the question popped into my head, "Whom did they arrest?"
We arrived at Loring October '82 left for Dyess January '88. Hubby was a Nav, Radar Nav in the 69th. Crew S-30. I volunteered at the hospital in the L&D unit.
There's a subtext here and that is that increasingly, the state is being subsumed by post-industrial, non-productive, uneducated, Democrat-voting, illegitimately breeding, criminal half-wits. Now, we got to feed them for a while, at our expense, and probably three-six slatterns and their snivelling bastards at the same time.
Also like to know what the hell they were up to. Can you spell "Meth-Cookers?"
