Two men arrested under OU campus

Two Norman men face felony charges after allegedly breaking into a tunnel under the University of Oklahoma campus to get into a building on the South Oval.

Christopher Thomas Boyce, 24, and James Kent Eldridge, 20, were charged Thursday in Cleveland County District Court with conspiracy to commit burglary and second-degree burglary.

According to an affidavit, a witness saw Boyce and Eldridge entering an underground tunnel system by cutting the locks to a manhole cover in the 1100 block of Asp Avenue. Police said the pair then opened a perimeter door and entered Richards Hall, where they removed a "stoppered glass vial."

I didn't realize that Normans were on the Homeland Security list for profiling...

That is definitely a possibility as well. I guess finding out what was in the vial would be necessary to narrow down reasons for this particular incident.

When you get to this thread, please ping me back.

I would love for you to shed light on this tunnel system.

What is it?

It just struck me as odd that the name of an old enemy of the U.S. should pop up in these troubled times.

My wife was amazed that I pulled the name "out of my a$$", as she so kindly put it.

Even though The Falcon isn't due for release until he's 98, the time frame is right for this to be his spaleen.

Eldridge Cleaver perhaps. He was a co-founder of the Black Panthers.

Thanks for that link re: the Dreyling case. I had to chuckle when I read the following sentence.

"No apparent connection between Dreyling and any terrorist group or activity has been found, Johnson said."

People investigating things down in OK must love that little statement... I've heard it so many times this month!

There are a series of old tunnels underneath OU that have been closed off for a long time. They are considered hazardous to your health due to dampness and mold. Some idiot at my son's fraternity wanted to jackhammer the concrete that was at their house as one of the tunnel entrances was there as they have the oldest house on campus.

If it's anything like the tunnels at Cal State Fullerton it's just water/elect/communication access between the buildings. I was young and stupid once too....

Any idea where the tunnels go?

Are they just for sewer pipes and such?

We had some catacombs at my alma mater that served as junk storage for over fifty years. Lots of neat stuff under there.

They were taking the glassware to make a bong out of it. College. Chem lab. Bongmaking. In some schools it might even be a core requirement. :-)

'blue canaries'

Interesting. I've never heard that term before.

They are regular tunnels that at one time connected buildings together -- you walk from the tunnel across Elm to all the old buildings on campus and never have to walk above ground is what I was told.

Miners used to carry canaries before there were other ways to tell if the air was going bad. Canaries are more succeptable to bad air than men. If the canary fell off the it's perch, it's time to leave the mine!

If a policeman falls over, EMT's don't approach until they know what dropped him and it isn't a danger. Falling on top of him won't save his life.

I'm sure Carole King was somehow involved, too.

Eldridge Cleaver is the panther you are thinking of.

sounds like they wanted to liberate the fleas in a sorority house just for kicks.
