The Miers nomination pits a Swift Boat author against a Bush National Guard detractor--in reverse.

Friday, October 21, 2005 12:01 a.m.

The politics of the Harriet Miers nomination are getting stranger as attention turns toward Ms. Miers's tenure as head of the Texas Lottery Commission. Two key players in last year's presidential campaign--Jerome Corsi, co-author of the Swift Boat Veterans book "Unfit for Command," and Ben Barnes, a former Texas lieutenant governor who claimed President Bush got special treatment when he joined the Texas Air National Guard--are involved in the debate.

"In 1997, when GTECH let Mr. Barnes go amid the growing lottery scandal, he received a $23 million severance package. "

This is the part of the story that makes me sick...

This sounds like a stinky mess covered up because the dems will look bad and the reps find distracting and beside the point. Sounds like good fun.

Just imagine what the hearings are going to look like. The DemonRats will gleefully go into this mess, all to show President Bush is both incompetent and corrupt. If Miers, instead of being a brown noser who faked loyalty to gain power, has any real loyalty to Presient Bush at all, she'll withdraw on the face saving basis that the Senate cannot effectively vet her nomination because doing so would require release of privileged information.

John Batchelor broke this story last night. The problem is, Michael Savage knew it was going to happen early last week. Was it in the news? I don't know, except I know it must have been discussed somewhere and hopefully the President was involved.

If Miers sits in the Senate and takes questions, they will not ask her how she will vote on Roe, they will ask her about the President's involvement with the awarding of contracts in Texas. Then they will ask her what she knows about the President's involvement with the Texas ANG. Then they will ask her is her nomination payment for being a good soldier, ie., quid pro quo.

It won't be good if one wants GOP candidates to win in the next election cycle. The Dems on the committee will paint all Republicans as crooks and incompetents. Unfortunately, some of it will stick.
