Yes on Prop. 76 Time to end reckless state spending binge
San Diego Union Tribune ^ | 10/21/05 | San Diego Union Tribune

Posted on 10/21/2005 11:20:49 AM PDT by etlib

The case against Proposition 76 – Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposal to curb growth in state spending – hinges on claims that it is a stealth measure to devastate crucial programs and empower a governor hostile to the interests of average Californians. But you don't have to belong to the Schwarzenegger cult of personality to recognize these contentions are canards. You just have to have remedial reading and math skills and a passing familiarity with economics.

...

Proposition 76 is radical only if you believe living within your means is radical. If you think that's an unfair way to characterize 76's opponents, then consider the fury of the California Teachers Association – the most powerful critic of 76 – over the state's current education budget. It's up $3 billion and 7 percent over last year, meaning schools made out better than any other part of government in the annual budget scrum. Yet the CTA and its Democratic allies endlessly promote the flat-out fiction that this is a spending cut.

Better than any other example, this reflects the mentality of the Sacramento status quo that Schwarzenegger is up against. A yes on Proposition 76 isn't just a vote for responsible government, it's a repudiation of the unions' sense of entitlement to an endlessly growing share of your tax dollars. Only such a sense of entitlement could produce the lunatic assertion that a mere 7 percent increase in annual spending isn't just disappointing – it's a cause for outrage.

Hardly, Fair Opinion. Most of those dems you noted are speaking out against the Union paycheck protection measure (Prop 75) which I fully support.

Perhaps if you looked at some of the polls that you posted, in detail, you would notice that 1/2 of republicans don't support Prop 76. You can't speak to the details and support it on its own merits, so you post these silly diatribes. There are plenty of reasons to oppose Prop 76, none of which have anything to do with the Dems unsupported attacks about "cutting spending". My reasons have been posted and supported. You seem to ignore the facts presented.
[See: Proposition 76 - A Conservative Argument for Voting "NO"

Also, take a look closely at Prop 77. Many, many conservatives and republicans don't support handing over authority to a bunch of nameless, faceless, unaccountable judges. The campaign couldn't get even half of the California Republican congressional Reps to support it. Several Republican conservative members of the state legislature are opposed to it. David Horowitz is strongly opposed. His credentials far outweigh yours.

Speaking of Horowitz, he had some advice that seems applicable to you (I modified it a little):

Unthinking opposition to what the other party says is what Democrats and RINOS do – Republicans Conservatives are too smart for that kind of knee-jerk emotional response.
And more from Horowitz:
Conservatives ought to be ashamed of themselves for even entertaining this "vision of the anointed" elitist thought. At least you can kick a legislator out if you don't like a redistricting plan he supported. These volunteer retired judges are accountable to no one. California Republicans, please save Arnold from himself! Proposition 77 must be defeated.
You really should read both of Horowitz's articles on Prop 77:

Arnold Schwarzenegger Wrong on Redistricting Proposition

You just never tire of your FR role as principal Arnold shill and PR flack, do you?

Your tireless toadying in his behalf notwithstanding, the word is now out on Arnold.

He is not the conservative he painted himself to be just before the Recall. Nothing you can say or do is going to change that.

Everyone can make up their own mind:

Do they want to vote with Dean, the Democrats, the Unions, and with calcowgirl,

OR do they want to vote with the Republicans, Arnold, McClintock, Ray Haynes, and other conservatives, including me.

Dean urges voters to reject measures governor supports [California]
CA: Feinstein to oppose Schwarzenegger's special election initiatives
John Alden (Marin cnty Dem Party chariman): Vote no on Prop 76 - we need better leaders
McClintock's recommendations for CA Propositions
Summary of Recommendations on the CA Propositions by various organizations and parties
CA: McClintock stumps for governor's ballot initiatives

Still can't speak to the content, huh?

I believe I've told you before, I'm not looking for anyone to follow. I'm looking for our Republican leaders to follow Republican principles. They are going astray and I will not follow them when they do.

Now, would you like to take a crack at answering your own questions?

Yes.

McClintock erred with the ad but I won't remove my support for his LG candidacy for the one incident.

I didn't vote for Prop 76 and if McClintock supports more borrowing to satisfy day to day operational expenses he'll lose my support as well.

I also will tolerate ritual back slapping but if specifics come up and McClintock begins to offer rationalizations for Schwarzenegger's actions/policies then McClintock becomes an enabler. Part of the problem and not the solution.

Hey, Unlimited Government Spending is OK if it's done by Republicans.

Your (corporate) tolerance for partisan gadflies amazes me.

It would be halarious if the responses from the FairOpinion account are software driven.

The whole forum would never live it down.

We agree more than we disagree

We also represent about 15% of the electorate and, sooner than later, the CAGOP will have to address our concerns. The numbers just don't pencil when that 15% is removed.

"It would be halarious if the responses from the FairOpinion account are software driven."

Seems doubtful. Saw a posted article by FO earlier today, although I suppose even that might be done by such software.

Well, Amerigomag, it doesn't much matter if it's an Arnoldbot, or not, cause Arnold's done a complete about face according to Oakland's Channel 2 last night!!!

He's pulled ALL his ads in support of all 4 Propositions!!! He's spent even more money to suddenly redo them all using other actors, rather than the ones he had already produced featuring himself!!!

So he realizes he's going down!!! He realizes what I've been trying to tell you people on FR, that the Unions have succeeded in making HIM the issue and it's killing the Propositions!!!

Therefore, I repeat, he will not ultimately run for re-election... leaving the only two that have filed... Gerald Parsky and Darrel Issa to run against Angelides and the other Dem Dwarf!!!

There's still time for other candidates to file.

Then what will we do Waspman if a conservative Republican gets elected?

The California Topic will wither away without Schwarzenegger and the CAGOP to kick around any more.

I'm sorry, you're right! Issa and Parsky are the only two that announced about two Repub conventions ago that they intend to run. That was at the very one that the dumb delegates decided to endorse A.S. without even having a Repub PRIMARY!!!
