KABUL, Afghanistan -- President Hamid Karzai on Friday condemned the alleged desecration of the bodies of two dead Taliban fighters by U.S. troops, but he said mistakes happen in war and Afghans shouldn't let it mar their impression of the United States.
His apparent attempt to reduce Afghans' anger over the incident came amid warnings by Islamic clerics of a possible violent anti-American backlash.
"Sometimes things happen in these sort of operations, during war. Soldiers make mistakes," he told reporters in Kabul. "We are very grateful for the international community's assistance. ... Their soldiers have shed their blood in our country."

Haji Ahmadullah, governor of Argandab, was shot dead in the mosque of his home city Panjwayee at around 8.30pm local time on Tuesday evening, according to Assadullah Khaled, governor of the Kandahar province where the assassination took place.

Why is it O.K. to saw off the head of a non-Muslim for release on public television, but not O.K. to burn the carcass of a Talibanista???
This reaction should illustrate the very serious problems inherent in maintaining any kind of serious dialogue with the practitioners of this belief system unless its over the barrel of a loaded gun with us holding the trigger.
It should also illustrate the illusory belief that Muslims in general can be successfully integrated into a western civlized society.
Their "them versus us" perspective is something out of the 7th century. Not only has it not improved with time, it has actually deteriorated.

I think these soldiers deserve medals for using what WORKS against the enemy.
They were too damned civilized if you ask me.
