"Proud to be black" makes no more sense than "Proud to be white," ... or "Proud to be short" or "Proud of my naturally-curly hair." How about:

I'm proud to be a Great Grand Father!!! That's what my dad says all the time now. Since he's now a great-granddad, that means I'm a grand-uncle. Now I feel old, and I'm just 33.
