I am a hodge-podge myself...Dutch, Norwegian, Scottish, English, and Lakota-Sioux...I have big feet as well, size 10 1/2....

My hubby is half Irish, and half Sicilian...our boys are quite a hodgepodge indeed...

Given time, more and more people will have longer and longer ethnic lineages...

When I met my hubbys grandmother for the first time, she said something to my hubbys aunt in Sicilian...the aunt translated..."Grandma says you are very pretty, its a shame you are not Sicilian"....that threw me for a loop...I guess grandma thought Sicilians were the best, all the rest of us were second rate...(poor Grandma, all of her four Sicilian children married non-Sicilians...and grandma had higher hopes for her grandson...but he disappointed her as well, I guess)....

Most of us already do, even if we don't know it ... like "Chicano" or "Black" or "German" or even "Sicilian." Sicilians are Roman-Greek-Norman-African-etc. (My step-mother-in-law is Sicilian :-).

We get confused, I think, by misusing the word "pride." It's one thing to appreciate your ethnic-national heritage ... Polish dancing, Italian food, Irish music, Cherokee crafts. It's good to respect the accomplishments and the hardships overcome by your ancestors. But to think that simply being born from a certain bloodline is an accomplishment in itself, something to be "proud" of, is just an excuse for not accomplishing anything through your own efforts.
