Well I was and I wasn't. The problem with the Senate process is that if Bush really wants he can get his nominee through. It will cost, of course, but he can do it. Who pays? Well, you and I. For instance, do you think Harry Reid's support came for free because he thought Ms. Miers was such a stunningly good candidate. Common! Harry was bought. Don't you want to know the price? I do.

I think the price was the Gang of 14 would exercise the Nuclear Option if an acceptable pick was Borked. I think she was acceptable to the republican weak sisters on the Judiciary Committee because her lack of track record gave them plausible deniability with their constituants.
