First of all, Weldon is chairman of the Armed Services committee. They actually purchase systems, weapons and equipment for the military. He has pushed for data mining programs such as Able Danger for years.

This is not a case of the DOD protecting classified knowledge. This is a case of them protecting their own hides, at the expense of programs like this, because THEY SCREWED UP.
