Wilma Is Not Global Warming
Fox News ^ | Thursday, October 20, 2005 | By Steven Milloy

It’s shaping up as an “extreme” week for global warming junk science. On Monday, the media reported about a new global warming study with headlines like UPI’s “More Extreme Weather Predicted.”

By Wednesday, Hurricane Wilma was labeled as the “strongest Atlantic hurricane ever reported,” which no doubt will fuel claims that global warming is causing more intense hurricanes.

We can, however, weather such global warming alarmism with the pertinent facts.

Monday’s news was generated by a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by Purdue scientists who used a combination of mathematical models, historical weather data and local climate systems to supposedly predict that the interaction of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations and local geographic features will increase the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, such as floods and heat waves.

The first red flag, here, is the Purdue researchers’ reliance on a mathematical model of global climate — essentially the Purdue scientists’ crude guess as to how our exceedingly complex climate system works.

While scientists and engineers often can use mathematics to successfully explain how many natural and artificial systems function — where success can be determined by how well the model’s results match up to real-world data — successful climate modeling has so far proved to be too difficult to achieve. Richard Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology at MIT, says that the models fail to correctly describe the behavior of clouds, which may cause predictions of higher temperatures to be three times too high.

Wait until the next really BIG, BIG, volcano blows it's top and the real scientists attempt to measure the almost incalculable CO2 released along with the resulting ash that causes a 'nuclear winter' scenario that actually cools the planet for a couple decades.

Were doomed!

This is NOT the worst hurricane season on record according to the NHC records.

When did the internal combustion engine get invented???

Well it certainly wasn't around in 10,000BC when the current spike in global Temperatures started to plateau

That's easy, looking at the graph the combustible engine was invented in 10,000 B.C /sarc

I believe it is true, but to make your post easily used as a reference, you should have put the bookmark where this graph came from.

Otherwise it is just another photoshop...

John, here is a google link to Prehistoric Hurricanes that has numerous articles on what hurricanes might have been like thousands of years ago. All the research points to century long oscillations of both frequency and strength of hurricanes in the Atlantic.

The point is, we've only been tracking them for about 150 years, and only in the past 50 years have we named them and found them via satellites that can see those far out to sea. The global warming nuts want to believe it is mankind (specifically western man, i.e. the United States of America) that is causing this. Therefore, to delay or stop global warming we need to kill the economy of the US. Of course, we would be impoverished like the Third World, but evil white capitalists deserve that.

Our Talking Point: Global Warming is a Communist Plot!!!

"supposedly predict that the interaction of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations and local geographic features will increase the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, such as floods and heat waves."

There is an odd set of data being presented by the global warming crowd. If any Freeper is a weather person by trade please look at this idea:

We all know that a nuclear war could cause a nuclear winter due to debris in the atmosphere. What if the planet has actually been cooler due to the burning of trees. For the previous 500 years as the population grew, trees were the primary source of heat and fuel. If this tree usage is coupled with a history of uncontrolled forest fires then there may actually have been more debris in the atmosphere. Given that now most civilized nations are actually cleaner and are controlling forest fires the alleged warming may actually have a credence but for different reasons.

Look at the correlation to Sun Spot cycles and their impact on Earth's weather. Good article in the June or July 2004 National Geographic. "Man made Global warming" is the LEAST scientifically determinable cause. It's attraction is it created a nice fat pipeline into the Govt treasuries of all the rich industrialized nations.

Did anyone else catch the new South Park Episode this week- "Two days before the day after tomorrow"? It was a hilarious lampoon on Global Warming & the Katrina media hysteria-hype blame game.

No, I'm sorry but my butt seems particularly attracted to the chair in front of my computer these days. I cannot seem to get it to stay on the couch by the TV.
