There was a live thread here months ago....Someone posted a pdf file with William F. Buckley name in it...it was a human rights activist file.

I didn't download it but read it here on line.

"Thank goodness for Calpernia, who has single-handedly unearthed the diabolical plot by which Free Republic has been infiltrated, nay, dominated, by . . . Communists!"

Communists are always such cute little things. And so very harmless. At least that's what communists tell us. Isn't it?

"Bush could've nominated a half dozen better qualified individuals, period."

Oh, goody. Name one without a paper trail.

Lashing out are we?

Liberals and conservatives are united in their disapproval of Miers because she is objectively unqualified for the SCOTUS. I'm sure it's a bitter pill for you to swallow, but her lack of qualifications transcends subjective political opinion. The great majority of people who support this nomination are people who have sworn an oath of fealty to George W. Bush and consider loyalty to him to be the sum total of "conservatism."

So please keep dreaming.

"That's why it's important that Miers withdraw at the suggestion (behind the scenes) of President Bush."

She isn't going to be withdrawn, and she will be confirmed.

The victory, as they say, is ours.

And from what do we know in what way Miers supports the interpretation of the constitution?

We don't. I'm hoping Bush does, though...

We will see in the end which Senators line up with which side...an outcome the anti-Miers zealots are desperate to avoid.

"Why" they end up on one side or the other is important.

Party-faithful arguments include simple head counting and guilt by association.

Couldn't have said it better myself; I agree with your observations whole-heartedly.

We'll see about that when the vote is taken, won't we.

Name calling and guilt by association. All canards of the left and taken up by the White House and its supporters. We are sexists. We may destroy the presidency...The Bush folk just can't abide by dissent any better than leftists do.

The evidence supports that conclusion.

Go ahead and call me names.

You ignorant fool.

"But these "measurable targets" are adjusted, usually down, according to a person's skin color, gender, or even age, in order to achieve diversity. How is that good business practice for a successful business? I think it isn't. And I also believe it's counterproductive for the existing employees to excel, knowing they have no chance to advance because of their gender, skin color, or age. In the long run, it's bad business practice."

It depends on who you are trying to do business with - if you want banking business in the Black or Asian-American communities you need a certain level of Asian faces for credibility.

Women may likewise shy away from doing business with someone they perceive as not hiring women.

And frankly there are plenty of white people who would rather not do business with an entirely black or Asian firm..it's not a coincidence that Japanese automakers have white faces visible.

Are you giving into people's prejudices? Sure. But it's not my job as a business man to fix the world- my job is to make money without breaking the law.

Hah! Good point. And I guess if I were taking a cross country trip, there's a possibility my broken clock would be right several times a day. Man, I hate being wrong. I bet you got that information from a leftist web site, didn't you!

Hmmmm....Why in the world would you keep using the broken clock? Repair or Replace.

When faced with many paths...I choose the RIGHT path for me, and then frequently check my direction or azimuth to ensure I am headed to the Destination I intended.

I'm supporting Miers because I support the Constitution and the President's right to nominate a Christian woman if he decides to.

And I support the Senate's right to reject the nominee on reasonable grounds. The fact that she is a cipher is reasonable grounds. The fact that she hasn't demonstrated she holds a traditional view of Constitutional jurisprudence is reasonable grounds. The fact that she has a weak grasp of Con law is reasonable grounds.

Even if Miers is unanimously confirmed by the Senate, that won't change the fact that she is unqualified. A Senate vote can't repair a deficient resume.

I hear that there are groups of lefties coming out against rape and murder. Should I change my stance on those issues as well?

I see the Miers troops excel in mediocrity.

Oh, thanks for the post. It turns out that I was being brainwashed by SDS, it's not like Meirs is an unqualified crony or anything.
