I'll forgive "Interview" so long as she never writes another screenplay for Tom Cruise.

I'm sorry to be cynical, but I'm guessing that Ms. Rice sees a great new demographic to sell books to.
If she truly has been changed by the risen Christ, then I stand corrected.

"Interview was a good read, but most of her work tended to delve to much into homosexuality."Definitely. It won't surprise you that she's a darling of the gay lifestyle types ;- )

I am going to withhold my opinion on this until I see more about what she is doing. She is praising the efforts of Clinton for what he did in LA but not one word about President Bush or anyone else. She also had praise for Sean Penn.

a novel about the 7-year-old JesusSomething tells me that if I read this (which I won't) I'd end up being really ticked off at the author.

... but don't consider the Apocrypha inspired text, The Apocrypha is one place you surely won't find any of these stories. The Apocrypha was all written BC.
She's almost surely relying on Gnostic texts, if anything. Gnosticism is the latest "in" heresy, especially with the big bucks "The Da Vinci Code" raked in.
I expect this to be a straight pander/cash-in-for-quick-bucks. Just as authentic as Madona's mystical Judaism.

So, specifically, do you know or does anyone else here where the story about Jesus-with-Joseph-making-sparrows-from-clay comes from?
I'm a Catholic and there is a prayer image of Christ and Joseph doing just that (the child Jesus making sparrows from clay with Joseph looking on).
But I don't know upon what it is based now, what area of (accepted or not) Scripture.

Why should this be that surprising? Much of the New Testament was written by and a persecutor of Christians.

I worry that people will begin to think she may be actually "speaking" for the Lord. Look at how many people now worship at the feet of Dan Brown, post da Vinci code.
I think you hit it. Based on what I've seen on this thread, she's decided that writing about religion is a mega-money-maker. Pretending to be religious herself is a way to fool truly religious people into buying her book--at least once.
There's a reason the apocrypha is not part of the Canon. Unfortunately, too many people treat it like it's more true than the actual Gospels.

Actually, there is a "connect the dots" method of placing Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Alexandria. Matthew has them fleeing from Egypt from Herod the Great, Alexandria had the highest population of Jews in Egypt and would be a likley place to go, but granted all we can do here is speculate, as Matthew jumps from Jesus as a infant-young child to somewhere around 30, and Luke jumps from 12 to 30.

Great thought. You know one could make a movie about that alone and it would be very interesting. I know they made one about Barabbas staring Anthony Quinn.

Uh, I'm quite aware Saul of Tarsus was a rather bad dude before his encounter on his way to Damascus ... the reason I mentioned Alice Cooper is because I was looking for a modern example of somebody in the entertainment field, a la Ms. Rice, who would've seemed an unlikely prospect to find the Lord, but did. Alice fit the bill. I wasn't looking for a person from the scriptures.
