Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska once again will wade into the political minefield of immigration reform, planning to introduce legislation that would allow immigrants here illegally to work their way to legal status.
The plan Hagel is expected to introduce Tuesday also will include stronger controls at the border to stem the flow of undocumented workers into the United States.
Sen. Chuck Hagel
The Republican said Saturday there are about 10 million illegal immigrants here now who are an integral part of the nation's economy. Any immigration proposal must recognize and provide a way for them to earn legal status.
"Most illegal immigrants are here for the same reasons our grandparents came to this country, to improve their families' future," he said. "Most of them are good people, but the fact is they are here illegally. We have to deal with that."
Hagel held meetings in Omaha to discuss immigration in advance of unveiling his proposal.
On Friday he met with federal, state and local law enforcement officials. On Saturday he met with immigrant advocates in south Omaha, a traditional landing place for undocumented workers.
Hagel said the outline of his plan was well-received in both meetings.
Overall, Hagel said, the plan will be similar to the bill he introduced with then-U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., in the last Congress.
But it will include some new details, including additional resources for border security.
He said he also will introduce the plan in three different bills. He said his previous experience in taking on controversial and complex issues, including climate change, has shown that breaking the plan into pieces would make it easier to pass.
Another sellout.
A chance at what, to run their numbers to 50% of the U.S. population?
So remember, folks! The next time Hagel or the RNC hits y'all up for donations, be sure to make a donation that they can understand...loud and clear!

Any plan that was well received by immigrant advocates has to be stopped.
Are these politicians that idiotic? There have been ways to become a legal resident of the U.S. We have to many idiots who do not want to lose citizen in their home country. Do they know what dual citizenship means? I am sick and tired of this nonsense. We need to vote these idiots out of office and elect someone who will enforce the laws already on the books.
If you've used your time here illegally to learn our language, respect our culture and support our country, that will be taken into consideration when legal entry visas are handed out.
Starting such and such a date, we will start handing out one legal entry visas for every confirmed deportation. If you want a chance at one, better hurry!
Police, judges, and the penal system are also an "integral part of the nation's economy." So should we encourage more crime, Chuck??
All we are saying,
Is give crime a chance.
We have. And here's what we got: 30% of our prison population, drug smugglers, welfare fraud, forgery, identity theft, communicable diseases, rape, murder, gangs like MS-13...
Hey republicans: want to get voted out of office? Support amnesty for illegal aliens.
North of Kansas, east of Wyoming, south of South Dakota, west of Iowa. Last one there is a rotten huevo.
US Sen "Chucky Boy" Hagel is a First Class Anal Oriface!
"Hey republicans: want to get voted out of office? Support amnesty for illegal aliens"
I wish- who are we supposed to vote for- Democrats? Like they are going to do anything about the problem. Conservatives have nowhere else to go, the Republican elites know that, and that is why they will do nothing about this problem and the US will be sold out to Mexico and gradually become a third world nation.
Hey chuck, do you boys in Nebraska like speaking spanish?
You farm boys in Nebraska like this B.S.?
Well tell me how do you like your representative now?
Next time vote for anyone but Chuck Hagel, maybe some one who isn't for illegal immigration.
The repubs are committing suicide with this kind of crap. Why support this? I'm no fortune-teller, but I've got a feeling donations and votes will be running a little lower in 2006-08.
Then stay home, once enough of these sell outs get fired by
the people (or maybe they were outsourced.....) they will
get the message.
"Yo Estados Unis por Americanos, no Rino's"
There are other options, such as the Constitution Party. Yes, I'm aware of the usual objections to voting third-party, but I can tell you one thing - nothing's better at grabbing the GOP's attention.
Well since they are such good people, I am sure they won't mind going back and coming back in legally now will they Chuck?
>>>North of Kansas, east of Wyoming, south of South Dakota, west of Iowa. Last one there is a rotten huevo.
You forgot Colorado in there...
Time to drag out my Hagel vodoo doll. Emails don't mean anything to this RINO.
Exactly how is this any different from amnesty? One has to be profoundly stupid not to have learned anything from the last amnesty. We are clearly not a nation of laws, we are a nation of expediency.
susie
What I can't understand is... why are YOU here, Chuck?
I love that idea. LOL
It's about time to start looking for some rope...
There are huge meatpacking plants in Nebraska that employ thousands of illegal aliens. Guess where Chuck gets his "contributions".
F Chuck
Oh, with Tommy boy, eh!
He said he also will introduce the plan in three different bills. He said his previous experience in taking on controversial and complex issues, including climate change, has shown that breaking the plan into pieces would make it easier to pass sneak into some piece of legislation

If they want these people to become legal, I suggest a fine/fee of $500,000.00 per family, $250,00.00 per individual. Most of their young children will probably be legal citizens, if born here, so the 500K should serve well. I'd be willing to consider a much lower fee/fine for those brought here as children by their parents, maybe $20k to $100k, the younger you were when brought here, the more you pay. I'd agree to letting them pay in-state tuition rates for college as part of this plan.
The figures I've heard have been ridiculously low.
Great graphic! Presidente Bush looks muy guapo! Very 19th Century!
I will be sending them some of these, for sure!
He accepts your e-mails?? Mine have been rejected for several months now.
Inquest says: "Give Border Security a Chance"
"Starting such and such a date, we will start handing out one legal entry visas for every confirmed deportation..."
That's a good plan too!
Yes we have millions of illegals that perform millions of low tech jobs that the business roundtable GOPers would scoff at if they were performed by Americans demanding a raise, but what the hell we really need politicians to screw us over so Hagel might as well join the mob.
Yep...they want them legal so they can vote...
they want them here so their buddies can benefit from
virtual slave labor..
They do not care what happens to the rest of America
imo
Go ahead and slam Hagel if you wish, he deserves it, but don't slam the state. Nebraska is a great state, and we are just as unhappy with Hagel as anybody else is. Tell me, Mr. Condescending Joeboy, who is YOUR senator, and what have they done this week to secure the border?
You are absolutely correct and deserving of salutations, but in our era of the big business and the multicultural left axis of evil we condemn you.
I really don't think America needs 10 million more DemocRATS. Especially if they are illegal.
And to think, I'm in CO. 8^O
If they can't find NE with the directions I gave then they probably never found their way across the border.
"Give illegals a chance?"
They've already been given a chance. Many chances. They each cost American society $40,000 a year. They run up our health costs. They bring crime. They cause cultural pollution. Maybe the good senator would like to pay for them out of his own pocket.
He takes about 5 weeks to reply but I've always gotten a reply. Last one was about the war and he just sent a couple of reprints from newspapers. I had asked he answer some specific points but they were just ignored.
Really, we're past the point of legal immigration, too. The Immigration Era was the late 1800s, not now. Now we are nearing 300 million population. There is congestion everywhere. Immigration is driving house prices out of reach for most Americans. It's diminishing the middle class and reducing our standard of living. Let's put a stop to it.
Why, so our government and politicians such as yourself can continue to force us to pay for them? I don't think so.
"Immigration is driving house prices out of reach for most Americans."
But but... do you want to pay more for your asparagus?
If you or I commit a crime, what are the odds we get rewarded for our efforts??
Good poiny. By the way, the increase in asperagus would be 10-15 cents a pound.
Bingo
