... and creating a commuter rail system between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Is this a concession to the fact that New Orleans is inimical to life and the only way to have "workers" is for them to commute from Baton Rouge?

Ruth's Chris has already relocated; Entergy is likely to relocate to Mississippi. Would it be prudent to see if New Orleans will still have businesses that will require the presence of "workers"?

If this is a build it and they will come scheme, perhaps Louisiana should fund it ... not the Federal Government [read U.S. taxpayer].

Why are lawmakers insulting the levees?

The way I see it if a cat5 and massive flood won't destroy it then its still standing in NO. Anything built where it shouldn't have been isn't standing.

So just build on higher ground and leave the levees alone.

Common sense and the truth. That will get you far in public service.

Shouldn't this be funded by the STATE? The charter of the Federal Gov't is to protect us all; I would think that protection of this nature is at a local level, and would fall under the responsibility of the State and local gov'ts.

I agree completely. But that would require the state to be realistic about cost/benefit ratio. That won't happen as long as they can find a way to suckle on the breast of the federal government.

Could someone please provide a record all all Mrs. St. Germain's concerns about the levees BEFORE Katrina?!

I've had it with all their whining. And where are all the citizens of that fine state? Have you seen a single interview with one of them questioning what the levee boards et al did with all the flood control money? Have you seen a single one demanding to know what the heck Nagin & Blanco were doing in the 5 days leading up to the storm?

Maybe it's just that the MSM hasn't sought them out to interview (doesn't fit the agenda). But I find it odd that we aren't hearing condemnations from the citizens.

OK, tell them we'll build it for a Cat 5, but the city will have to be completely uninhabited while they are under construction. As they said, it'll take close to 20 years, but I'm sure that someday NO will come back.....maybe.

------That is what I thought. If they want to live in a flood zone, why should the taxpayers foot the bill?
