I've never had the least, even remotest desire to ever go to Mexico. The place is totally uninteresting to me.

I honeymooned in Cancun. It was absolutely gorgeous, relatively inexpensive and the people there were almost universally pleasant.

I can think of worse places to be stranded after a hurricane. As long as there is still beer to be found, survival would be relatively easy. If you have to drink the water, you're doomed.

I just went to Cancun for the first time. Most miserable trip of my life.

Cozumel is excellent. Been there twice, was going back in December (probably not now, it's pretty much trashed). The people were very friendly (seemingly much more so than on the mainland).

IIRC, those Corona Beer "paradise" commercials were filmed on or about Coz. It is (was) beautiful. Hope it can make a come-back.
