Sheehan: Oppose Clinton if She Backs War (Stay Away from Fort Marcy Park!)

Cindy Sheehan, who became the face of anti-war sentiment after her son died in Iraq, urged foes of the war to thwart Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's political aspirations unless the New York Democrat opposes the conflict.

"I believe that any candidate who supports the war should not receive our support," Sheehan said Tuesday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It doesn't matter if they're Senator Clinton or whoever."

Sheehan has become a de facto leader of the anti-war movement since she camped out near President Bush's Texas ranch while he vacationed there in August, requesting a meeting with the president. Her son Casey was killed last year in an ambush in Sadr City, Iraq.

The former first lady, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, voted in 2002 for the congressional resolution authorizing the president to use military force in Iraq. Clinton has supported troop-level expansions even while criticizing Bush's handling of Iraq.

Clinton is up for re-election next year and leads national polls of the party's potential 2008 presidential candidates.

Sheehan met with Clinton in Washington last month to discuss the war.

"After she met with me, she said she has to make sure our sons didn't die in vain," Sheehan said. "That is a totally Republican talking point."

Clinton campaign spokeswoman Ann Lewis declined to comment on Sheehan's criticism.

Sheehan is in Washington this week to continue her protests. Her public criticism of Clinton surfaced earlier this month with a message posted on anti-war filmmaker Michael Moore's Web site in which she wrote: "I would love to support Hillary for president if she would come out against the travesty in Iraq. But I don't think she can speak out against the occupation because she supports it."

Sounds like a recipe for civil war... in which case we need to be out of there. Saddam gone, "constitution" exists, it should be the Iraqis problem from here on out...

It could sound like one hand clapping, but it doesn't mean it is.

There isn't going to be a civil war, the insurgency there isn't anywhere near as strong as it was earlier.

And the United States isn't a nation that is going to cut and run from iraq now.

There isn't going to be a civil war, the insurgency there isn't anywhere near as strong as it was earlier.

Then we don't need to be there. We're losing more people this month than last, which doesn't point to a weakening insurgency. Either way, we need to leave.

And the United States isn't a nation that is going to cut and run from iraq now. We'll leave when the job is done.

We're not a nation that runs on slogans. If we can finally agree on a reason we're there - to establish democracy, then we should declare victory and leave. The biggest threat to a fledgeling democracy is the perception that it's under the boots of an occupying army. The Iraqi forces will never bear the full load of protecting their own nation if we're always there to back them up.

I sure hope so.

It's my understandting that she's never held any kind of job for any length of time. However, this year she's receiving speaking fees for her so-called speeches. She'll owe taxes on that money as of April 15, 2006. It will be interesting next spring to see what the IRS does then.

Another tidbit is that when her husband filed for divorce, the lawsuit requests that she pay him support. She obviously has money coming from somwhere.

#1: We can declare victory NOW, when we have a success... and the Iraqis have an official constituion, it's officially their country. There is no reason for us to stay any longer and lose any more soldiers.. it would also remove the only reason that the insurgents have for support..

I have an alternative: We leave lock-stock-and barrel for Syria, Sherman-like, led by the 3rd "Thundering Herd" Armored Division. It shouldn't take 3 weeks.
After we break a lot of things and kill Syrian and foreign terrorists there that would kill us here, we leave for home or back to Iraq. If the Iraqis don't have things under control, well, the Iraqi roaches presumably have come out of the wood-work.

We may not be a nation that runs on slogans, but we also don't run, and hide or surrender.

Establishing a democracy is one step, cementing it is next, or should we wave the white flag, leave and allow the country to turn into another afghanistan where we will have to return and invade again.

Al Quada must be hunted anywhere it is, and they do have operatives in iraq, leaving them there to roam and lead the insurgency is not only foolish, its suicidial.
