WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Wednesday he was open to across-the-board spending cuts in the federal budget to help pay for hurricane assistance.

In a speech to the Economic Club of Washington, Bush also said he was working with congressional Republicans on a plan for pushing "significant reductions in mandatory and discretionary spending."

Some Republican conservatives have been outraged at the level of federal spending under the Bush administration and projections of up to $200 billion to help rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.

Might be nice if you executed one of these plans you keep pushing for on so many issues.

"Open To The Idea"

Good Grief! Shouldn't he be the #1 Promoter of spending cuts?

Oh! ...that was before he was elected. Things change, I guess.

How about "across-the-board" spending cuts just because it's the fiscally responsible thing to do. Period.

Time for a little "This Day in History". Ten years ago today, on October 26, 1995, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2491, a bill to shrink the federal government, cut taxes, and return more power to the states. Those were the days. Can the GOP ever get its cool back?

The Outstanding Public Debt as of 26 Oct 2005 at 06:53:13 PM GMT is
$8,015,689,751,794.04
yes that is
8 trillion, 15 billion, six hundred 89 million, 7 hundred 51 thousand, 7 hundred 94 dollars and 4 cents.

The estimated population of the United States is 297,537,638
so each citizen's share of this debt is $26,940.11.

That's quite a debt to be born with this morning.

Just don't touch Senator Stevens's $200+ Million Bridge for 50 people.

Have to say that while I'm still a believer in the President on judicial nominations, when it comes to spending I'm from Missouri.

Across the board spending cuts are a coward's way out. He needs to specify unnecessary programs and eliminate them, such as the NEA and Public Radio.

They should be able to trim $500 Billion off this bloated budget in no time. All it takes is some will.
