This is being looked at backward. The NCAA is embarrassed and ashamed of the American Indians and don't want such trash (in their view) displayed anywhere. They feel the same way as the Carlisle school for the Indian children did in the late 1800's. They hate the culture, language and the reminder that there were people here before the white man got here.To eradicate the language, you have to forbid it's being spoken. NCAA is just taking a page out of their book by forbidding any reminder of Indian culture.

That sounds like my (unappreciated) plan when the Miami Redskins were leaned on to change their nickname. I wanted them to change the Miami name too so that the Miami Indian tribe would be erased from the history books entirely.
