If the teachers really wanted more time for teaching, they would cancel the "in-service" days during the school year, which adds up to tremendous babysitting costs for working parents, and take those classes in the summer, when they are working full-time, second summer jobs.
The other parents should call the school and say they will keep their kids home if there is no Halloween Party.
...because after all, the purpose of public schools is to provide a free babysitting service so that other families can have two incomes.

We don't have inservice days in my district.
Genious, teachers do not voluntarily go to these things. They are required to go.
The classes are offered when they are offered. You have to have a certain number of credits to renew your certificate. you view school as a baby-sitting service do you?
