Say what you want about Madistan, but the city knows how to party! When I was in college, State Street was DA BOMB! (it will literally when the annual Halloween party commences). The street has no traffic, just lined with bars and shops and people milling about. Don't let the liberal lunatics get to you. Madison is a nice city and has consistently ranked in the Top Ten of cities to live in.

Yes, as the state capital, it sucks money from the pockets of people from around the state and spends a disproportionate amount on itself - roads, parks, universities, you name it. (The same formula applies to many other state capitals.) Samll wonder it's a Top Ten city. You could take the same formula and transform a toxic wasteland into Paradise.

And if you do, you'll attract the usual freeloading libs too.

It is not without its charms. However, I live ten miles south of the city and have sworn an oath to never work in Madistan ever again. DH, too. The politics and the way the city and their "Progressive" Mayor conduct themselves is disgusting. And moderates and conservatives alike in the area are finally sitting up and taking notice. What happens in Madistan effects ALL of us in Wisconsin, as it's our seat of Government...and they totally live in their own little world, passing laws that effect the rest of us. It's total "taxation without representation" in many, many situations.

There's currently a movement to recall the Mayor. We'll see how far they get, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Free-For-All this Halloween weekend is going to cost taxpayers in excess of $50K for extra police services alone, not to mention how it taxes our EMTs, ties up our ambulances, our jails have moved 60 inmates to other facilities to make room in The Drunk Tank for idiot college kids boozing it up, our Emergency Rooms will be taxed, etc. They may as well shut down the rest of the city and not provide services to anyone else in need this weekend; that's how ridiculous it is.
