In his first extensive comments on California's upcoming special election, former Gov. Gray Davis said today that he opposed all of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's reform initiatives, but downplayed any political backlash for Schwarzenegger if voters reject the four propositions.
Democrats have blasted Schwarzenegger for calling the special election, saying the estimated $54 million cost is a waste for the cash-strapped state. A Public Policy Institute of California poll released today showed none of the four reform initiatives has majority support of likely voters.
Unlike many Democratic leaders, Davis said that the state budget issues involved in Proposition 76 alone probably justified holding a special election. But he said he opposes the proposition because of the education cuts that likely would be required to meet the spending limits.
Davis also opposes Proposition 74, which would increase probation for new school teachers, because he said it has ``virtually nothing to do with improving student performance.'' Davis said he opposes Proposition 75, which would require labor unions to get approval from members before using dues on political activities, because it does not also require corporations to get approval from shareholders for similar activities.

LOL!
Thanks for the reminder.
What a really scary Halloween it would be if Gray Davis were still governor or if Bustamante had won.
:::::shudder at the thought ::::::
No surprises here.
Yeah. Bill Clinton loves to second-guess Dubya, too.
Boys, this is called 'Doing Something'. Going out on a limb and actually accomplishing things during your term in office. And yes, you draw fire when you do that. Not safe - like doing absolutely nothing but posing - so you probably wouldn't understand.
And look where Davis ended up:
Former Governor Gray Davis Joins Faculty at UCLA

Former Gov. Gray Davis has taken a teaching fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Davis, who served four and-a-half years as California's chief executive, will be a guest lecturer, panelist and serve as a resource for faculty and students on state politics in the School of Public Affairs.
The former governor, who is also an attorney, joined a Los Angeles law firm last December.
That pretty much guarantees their passage!
"That pretty much guarantees their passage!"

Let's hope so!
They cling to the notion that a substantial minority voted to keep Davis in office and therefore Davis' opinion may still have some persuation in the electorate.
The truth is that a significant proportion of that minority voted for Davis because of the hatred for Republicans whipped up by the same parties that torment Schwarzenegger today. Poll that same minority and most would agree the Davis was an unprincipled scoundrel disgracing the state of California and the office he held.
Well, there are many shades of Gray. This one just happens to have made an appearance right before Halloween, appropriately enough.
You just know that they're good initiatives if all the Demoncrats are against them, past or present!
The voters made it plain what they thought of his opinions.
