Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald did not find evidence to prove that there was a "broad conspiracy to out a covert agent for political gain. He did not find evidence of wide-ranging criminal behavior. He did not even indict the media's ordained villain, Karl Rove," writes David Brooks in Sunday's NY TIMES.
"Leading Democratic politicians filled the air with grand conspiracy theories that would be at home in the John Birch Society."
"Why are these people so compulsively overheated?.. Why do they have to slather on wild, unsupported charges that do little more than make them look unhinged?
Brooks quotes from an essay written 40 years ago by Richard Hofstadter called "The Paranoid Style in American Politics."
Hofstadter argued that sometimes people who are dispossessed, who feel their country has been taken away from them and their kind, develop an angry, suspicious and conspiratorial frame of mind. It is never enough to believe their opponents have committed honest mistakes or have legitimate purposes; they insist on believing in malicious conspiracies.
"The paranoid spokesman," Hofstadter wrote, "sees the fate of conspiracy in apocalyptic terms -- he traffics in the birth and death of whole worlds, whole political orders, whole systems of human values. He is always manning the barricades of civilization." Because his opponents are so evil, the conspiracy monger is never content with anything but their total destruction."
Brooks summarizes: " So some Democrats were not content with Libby's indictment, but had to stretch, distort and exaggerate. The tragic thing is that at the exact moment when the Republican Party is staggering under the weight of its own mistakes, the Democratic Party's loudest voices are in the grip of passions that render them untrustworthy."
Developing...
Shows once again that Brooks is my favorite "moderate." The Dems truly have become the Republicans of the 1950s, divided between a wine and cheese, morally debauched wing and a paranoid, conspiratorial moonbat wing. Since the moonbats comprise 90% of the Dem base, this ought to be entertaining.
Let's see:
1. Dim voter are dumb and happy to believe things like Bush blew up the levees.
2. There has been an indictment.
3. It does not matter the reality of the indictments, the Dims want to spin it to say this is a corrupt WH.
A someone said about the 2000 election, if you pride yourself in having all the dumb voters, you don't get to complain when they are not able to vote correctly.
The succinct answer is they are wildly desperate for power.
Bingo, and after all, they know better than those millions of appalling red voters.:) I can still hear their screams of disbelief/pain after Nov.3, 2004.:)
One of the libs icons is a known killer. One a former big wig in the k.k.k. Another is a known rapist. Another a known rapist enabler. And for GODS sake don't even think of pelosi or conyers or how the hell many pathetics there are in this party.
Ok and we have Frist? Great.
The dems could be a tad angry because:
- Number of individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes: 47
- Number of these convictions during Clinton's presidency: 33
- Number of indictments/misdemeanor charges: 61
- Number of congressional witnesses who have pleaded the Fifth Amendment, fled the country to avoid testifying, or (in the case of foreign witnesses) refused to be interviewed: 122
The Dems are unhinged because they think the White House is their domain only, not the Republicans, for reasons that I cannot understand.Maybe they cannot stand to be out of power to the point they have to lie and besmirch the Republicans to try to get back into power.Lord knows that is the only way they can win nowadays. They have no ideas or plans for anything. They are left to spinning and lies hoping to win in 2006 and 2008.
More acurately would be that they are seeing thier last vestage of power and means for advancing thier agenda slip away from them. The SCOTUS!
That has been the only way they've been able further the liberal agenda.
Quite similar as to how in the bible it speaks of how in the last days, Satan unleashes unprecidented evil because he knows he has but a short time left before being judged and cast into the "Lake of Fire"
Sound like part of the Mission Statement from DU.
LOL! You a NEW AMERICAN reader?
The JBS is STILL, without equal, the most paranoid outfit in the known universe. The leadership won't even reveal the current membership numbers, which means they are likely so low as to be laughable.
I keep hearing how smart this Fitzgerald is.
I think he is very stupid.
