This pick of Alito is orders of magnitude better than the pick of Miers. NOW the country will have the right debate - that is, if the GOP is up to the task of expressing why a conservative jurist is NOT an issues advocate. A conservative Court only returns the issue to the people, it does not "finally decide" the issue for them.
I thank God that Gonzales is not who the President chose here.
Now let's see if Specter supports this choice. If not, there is BIG TIME trouble. Right now, it is almost ALL about Specter.
I never thought Gonzales was being considered for the SC. There's never been anything more than rumor and speculation to support that possibility. No indication from anyone that matters that Gonzales was ever under consideration.
Insiders are saying this guy was always a Bush favorite, but he went with somebody outside the "monastary" with Miers.
I think Miers straight up told Bush she would follow Scalia on the court.
I for one said that the WAY Miers was sunk guaranteed that Gonzolez could not be chosen, because the detail that allowed conservatives to ditch her was the issue of internal WH papers. So Gonzolez was in worse shape than Miers in being able to defend a record . . . of any sort.
This is exactly what I thought he would do when Miers failed, because when it comes to the judiciary he IS a conservative.
I have a $10 bet with someone here -- all I have to do is find out who that Freeper was -- he was convinced that Bush would nominate a moderate or liberal and offered anyone $10.
I love this pick -- do you think we are going to get dissenters on here now -- if we do, we sure know which way they lean -- LEFT!
