I never trusted Shelby, and always felt that the Republicans should have gotten Bacchus to run against him in a primary.

He's a convert, but not in a good way, like Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell, or Phil Gramm, or (Fob) James, or Frank Rizzo, or Herman Badillo.

More along the lines of Billy Tauzin, i.e. "I'm gonna get on the Republican gravy train while there's still time to save my butt."

Plus, I'm almost convinced that Larry Flynt had the goods on him, which is why he rolled over during Sir Slickenstein's impeachment trial.
