Charles Martel, known as 'The Hammer,' smites a Muslim warrior during the Battle of Tours in 732. Martel, ruler of the Franks, turned back an Islamic onslaught that for a century had appeared unstoppable.

'The events that rescued our ancestors of Britain, and our neighbors of Gaul, from the civil and religious yoke of the Koran.' --Historian Edward Gibbon, describing the Frankish victory over the Moslems at Tours.

For freedom from all of these obligations, you might spare a minute sometime today, and every October, to say a silent "thank you" to a gang of half-savage Germans and especially to their leader, Charles "The Hammer" Martel.

I thank Charles Martel every day, as I do Our Lady of Lepanto.

From the essay:

Leaderless, the Arab throng broke off the fight. "All the host fled before the enemy," candidly wrote one Arab source, "and many died in the flight." A monk claimed that the ratio of Muslim to Christian dead was about 370:1. Even if he was exaggerating--a virtual certainty--the Islamic world took the loss hard. Muslim historians for centuries referred to Tours, notes Creasy, as "the deadly battle" and "the disgraceful overthrow."

All these years and allah still can't seem to find a way to defeat those pesky Christians. The ratios have stayed about the same.

Alas it looks like unless the Euro's wake up the Muslims will finally take Europe at some point in the next fifty years. Most likely without firing a single shot.

"Which is to say that if in the next life you can't find the Pearly Gates, just follow the sound of the loud German drinking songs. You'll get to the right place."

That IS my plan, or barring that, I'll find the Irish!

Great post, and we all do well to remember this stuff is not bs, it is all true. TROP is at war against us, we shy from that at our peril.

Good thing for Martel that Bill Clinton wasn't around to bomb the French and German civilian populace for resisting the Muhammedans so successfully!

Ah, the good old days!

Who is that?

Tom (the Hammer) DeLay, US House Majority Leader. He does to DemocRATS what Charles Martel did to the Muslims.

Sounds like not much has changed. Muslims are all bluster and badass when facing a much weaker foe. But put them in front of real men, with weapons and anger and the skill to use both, and they fall apart. Hell their losing streak predates the French! They are spoiled children who need a good spanking.

"Soon one in 10 Frenchmen may be Muslim"

The fruit of a poor immigration policy.

A king's bastard son who

Interesting, when you consider the man who lead the forces at Lepanto was likewise the illegitimate son of an emperor.
