"The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men." -- Winston Churchill
I used to be the same way - read a little of the Koran and it seemed okay, nice ideals and all that. I figured the bloody history was in the past; after all, no one is perfect.
I don't look at Islam that way anymore. And since most Muslims are the descendents of those who were forcibly converted, and to be born Muslim means one must die Muslim, many who are not intrinsically bad are, basically, FUBARed.
I say they should look to their ancestors and convert back, en masse, to what their forebears were.
So you don't find it ironic that, "womens' attempt to free themselves from a repressive male-dominated society," has to be fronted by, be organized by, and be spoken for, by a man of that very society?
Yes, but they still have to sleep sometime...
No -- because that's the same way women in the United States and Canada had to win the right to be considered even as human as Black men. (Black men are counted as 3/5 human being in the Constitution of the USA; women are not counted at all.)
